    6735583, May 11, 2004
  • Filed:
    Nov 1, 2000
  • Appl. No.:
    09/705513
  • Inventors:
    Anna Bjarnestam - Seattle WA
    Karina Holm - London, GB
    Alan Capel - Buckinghamshire, GB
William G. Kuhn - Seattle WA
    Jason Staczek - Seattle WA
  • Assignee:
Getty Images, Inc. - Seattle WA
  • International Classification:
    G06F 1730
  • US Classification:
    707 2, 707 4, 707 5
  • Abstract:
A computer-based method and system for classifying and locating media content is provided. In preferred embodiments, a dynamically modifiable, structured vocabulary system is used to drive a media classification and search system. An exemplary embodiment of the media classification and search system includes media content unit classification services, a media content unit search engine, and one or more data repositories, including typically a media content unit collection, metadata, the vocabulary, and a term-to-media content reverse index. The structured vocabulary provides a classification system, whose structure and relationships can be altered independently of the media content being classified, thus enabling tuning of the system without needing to reclassify data. The use of the structured vocabulary also increases the rate of success and efficiency in matching search requests to locate media content.
  • Methods And Apparatus For Graphical Object Interaction And Negotiation

    view source
  • US Patent:
    7589749, Sep 15, 2009
  • Filed:
    Aug 16, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/204740
  • Inventors:
Michael S. De Laurentis - Seattle WA, US
Benjamin P. Bauermeister - Seattle WA, US
Jason L. Staczek - Seattle WA, US
Yohko A. F. Kelley - Woodinville WA, US
  • Assignee:
Adobe Systems Incorporated - San Jose CA
  • International Classification:
    G09G 5/00
  • US Classification:
    345676
  • Abstract:
A system provides interaction between graphical objects and a managing application by detecting that movement of a first graphical object relative to a second graphical object on the graphical user interface is within a spatial proximity. In response to the detection of movement, the system notifies the first graphical object of presence information related to the second graphical object. The presence information includes at least an identity of the second graphical object. The system forms an association between the first graphical object and the second graphical object based on the presence information, and then graphically alters a representation of at least one of the first graphical object and the second graphical object on the graphical user interface in response to the formation of the association with each other.
  • Declarative Synchronization Of Shared Data

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20130166507, Jun 27, 2013
  • Filed:
    Apr 21, 2006
  • Appl. No.:
    11/408644
  • Inventors:
Jason Staczek - Seattle WA, US
  • International Classification:
    G06F 17/30
  • US Classification:
    707625
  • Abstract:
Methods and apparatus, including computer systems and program products, related to declarative synchronization of shared data. One method includes receiving one or more changes to data maintained by one of multiple computer programs having respective local copies of the data, identifying an event characterizing synchronization of the data maintained by the computer program with the other computer programs (e.g., with a local copy managed by the other computer program), and initiating synchronization of the changes with one of the other programs having respective local copies (e.g., with the local copy managed by the other program) in response to the event occurring. The event can be characterized by an annotation. Identifying an event can include reading a property of a data object (e.g., in a data object graph of shared data).
  • Font Manager With Selective Access Of Installed Fonts

    view source
  • US Patent:
    55862420, Dec 17, 1996
  • Filed:
    Apr 1, 1994
  • Appl. No.:
    8/221806
  • Inventors:
Clyde D. McQueen - Seattle WA
Benjamin P. Bauermeister - Seattle WA
Jason L. Staczek - Seattle WA
Michael S. DeLaurentis - Seattle WA
Glenn G. Brooks - Seattle WA
  • Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Company - Palo Alto CA
  • International Classification:
    G06F 1500
  • US Classification:
    395167
  • Abstract:
A method for managing a plurality of different fonts that are installed on a computer. Raw font data for the plurality of fonts are stored in files on a computer hard disk (34). At least some of the fonts for which a character set is defined by the raw data are installed in the graphics user interface operating system running on a computer. The installed fonts are listed in a file (40). The method enables a user (22) to create one or more font menu lists (28) that are displayed to the user whenever selection of a font for use in a document by an application is desired. The font menu lists are subsets of the complete list of installed fonts on the operating system. Applications (42) can access any of the fonts installed on the system, but whenever a font must be selected by the user for use in a document, a more limited list of fonts appropriate for the application then running on the computer is displayed, reducing confusion as to the appropriate fonts that should be considered. Fonts are also generated on-the-fly, using PANOSE. TM. numbers, if a font required for use in a document by an application is not installed.
