With greens running firm at the testing Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club, Welshman Dredge, New Zealands Michael Hendry and Swindons David Howell made it a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard after ther trio completed four-under-par rounds of 68.
Howell, a five-time European Tour winner, was joined atop the leaderboard by Bradley Dredge and Michael Hendry. Dredge has two European Tour victories with the last coming in 2006, while Hendry is looking for his first tour title.
