Abstract:

Compositions which comprises a major amount of an alkaline earth or alkali metal carboxylate, a minor amount of unreacted base and impurities, and an effective anti-staining amount of an organic chelating agent are useful as non-staining deicing compositions for use on airport runways and taxiways. The preferred alkaline earth carboxylate is calcium magnesium acetate and the preferred chelating agent is EDTA. Processes for preparation of such compositions are described.

Abstract:

An electrically powered vehicle transportation system including improvements in an electrified roadway system and a vehicle for operation on the roadway. The roadway is energized in response to the presence of a vehicle having certain control systems and only when that vehicle satisfies certain predetermined conditions which provide safety features for foot traffic on the roadway system. For the more efficient operation of both spark- and compression-ignited internal combustion engines, and/or control of octane requirement increase in spark-ignited internal combustion engines, at least a portion of the surfaces of the intake manifold exposed to the fuel-air mixture, and/or the combustion chamber exposed to combustion, are fabricated from coated with a material having the combination of thermal conductance and thermal penetration which permits the temperature of said surface during the combustion process to be in excess of the temperature at which deposits form and said surface storing insufficient heat to substantially raise the temperature of the incoming air-fuel charge during the engine intake and compression stroke.
