  • Vascular Filter System

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6391044, May 21, 2002
  • Filed:
    Feb 12, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    09/249377
  • Inventors:
Jay S. Yadav - South Russell OH
Gregg S. Sutton - Maple Grove MN
    Amy Raatikka - Minneapolis MN
    Thomas Borillo - Plymouth MN
  • Assignee:
    Angioguard, Inc. - Plymouth MN
  • International Classification:
    A61M 2900
  • US Classification:
    606200
  • Abstract:
A removable vascular filter system for blocking micro- and macro-emboli while allowing the continued perfusion of blood comprises a filter membrane positioned on a guidewire, wherein a free end of the membrane sits tightly against the guidewire when the filter membrane is in a collapsed state and wherein the filter has a means for deploying the filter membrane to assume a position substantially normal to the longitudinal axis of the guidewire. The filter membrane is comprised of a fine mesh material which has a pore size capable of blocking emboli while allowing continued blood flow, a preferred embodiment of which comprises regularly spaced, laser-formed holes.
  • Stent Delivery System

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6645174, Nov 11, 2003
  • Filed:
    Mar 29, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/806654
  • Inventors:
Jay S. Yadav - South Russell OH 44022
  • International Classification:
    A61F 1100
  • US Classification:
    60410307, 623 111
  • Abstract:
A non-sheath balloon expandable stent delivery system ( ) has a catheter-mounted balloon ( ) whose ends ( ) are invaginated and folded over onto the balloon itself. Thus, when a stent ( ) is mounted on the balloon, the balloon ends fold over the ends of the stent, thus covering its ends and serving a sheath function. The folded over ends ( A, A) could cover the terminal portions of the stent or could reach to the middle of the stent and cover the entire stent. When the balloon is inflated to deploy the stent; the balloon ends inflate and uncover the stent. The balloon inflation ports in the balloon catheter could be positioned so as to preferentially direct the inflating fluid into the balloon ends/invaginations ( A, A) to assure their inflation before the inflation of the body of the balloon. Because the stent will be crimped on the body of the balloon, the pressure and wall tension required to inflate the body of the balloon will be much greater than the pressure required to inflate the unrestricted balloon ends. The balloon ends will thus expand and move off the ends of the stent before the stent expands so as not to become trapped between the stent and an organ or corporeal vessel wall.
  • Vascular Filter

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6755846, Jun 29, 2004
  • Filed:
    Oct 2, 1998
  • Appl. No.:
    09/155753
  • Inventors:
Jay S. Yadav - Roswell GA
  • Assignee:
    Angioguard, Inc. - Plymouth MN
  • International Classification:
    A61M 2900
  • US Classification:
    606200
  • Abstract:
A removable vascular filter device for blocking micro-and macro-emboli while allowing continued perfusion of blood, comprises a guidewire having distal and proximal portions, wherein there is a recess in the distal portion and a filter comprising a flexible filter membrane and a filter membrane support structure. The filter membrane has a fixed inner portion and a free outer portion, wherein the filter membrane fixed inner portion is movably attached toward the distal end of the guidewire recess and wherein the filter membrane free outer portion is positioned in the recess when the filter membrane is in a collapsed state. A deploying means causes the filter membrane proximal end portion to assume a position substantially normal to the longitudinal axis of the guidewire.
  • Low Profile Vascular Filter System

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6991641, Jan 31, 2006
  • Filed:
    Mar 12, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/095925
  • Inventors:
Pedro Diaz - Pembroke Pines FL, US
Jay S. Yadav - Hunting Valley OH, US
  • Assignee:
Cordis Corporation - Miami Lakes FL
  • International Classification:
    A61B 17/22
  • US Classification:
    606200
  • Abstract:
A removable, low profile, vascular filter system for capture and retrieval of emboli while allowing continuous perfusion of blood, comprising a guidewire having proximal and distal markers, a filter delivery and deployment system, having an outer member and an inner member, and a filter removably attached near the distal end of the inner member. The filter comprises proximal and distal basket sleeves which position the filter between the proximal and distal markers on the guidewire, after the guidewire is in position past the vessel occlusion. The guidewire placement prior to filter delivery may facilitate access to the interventional site, especially through tortuous anatomy. Also, retrievability of the filter from the wire may avoid loss of guidewire position, which may occur following removal of filters permanently attached to guidewires.

  • US Patent:
    7618363, Nov 17, 2009
  • Filed:
    Aug 6, 2003
  • Appl. No.:
    10/636293
  • Inventors:
Jay Yadav - Hunting Valley OH, US
Mark Allen - Atlanta GA, US
David O'Brien - Norcross GA, US
David Stern - Grayson GA, US
Jason White - Atlanta GA, US
Michael A. Fonseca - Marietta GA, US
  • Assignee:
    CardioMEMS, Inc. - Atlanta GA
  • International Classification:
    A61M 1/12
  • US Classification:
    600 16
  • Abstract:
A ventricular assist device comprises a sheet of hydraulically actuated material that can be affixed to prescribed locations on the surface of the heart to assist areas of the heart that do not contract normally. The material is comprised of a network of contractible unit cells that individually contract when fluid is pumped into them. These unit cells are connected together in a network that causes the sheet to contract radially inward. This contraction causes the sheet to transmit forces to the heart to assist in its natural contraction. A sensing function coordinates the contraction of the sheet with the contraction of the heart. The change in shape of the device is accomplished by distributing pressurized fluid throughout the spaces of the device by way of a network of channels. When pressure is removed from the fluid system, it assumes a deenergized “rest” position in which it does not transmit any forces to the surface of the heart. This property of the device prevents the device from inhibiting the heart's natural contractions in the event of a failure of the device or a loss of hydraulic power.
  • Apparatus For Treating Atherosclerosis

  • Filed:
    Jul 25, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/188347
  • Inventors:
Hitinder Gurm - Ann Arbor MI, US
Jay Yadav - Hunting Valley OH, US
  • Assignee:
The Cleveland Clinic Foundation - Cleveland OH
  • International Classification:
    A61F 2/06
  • US Classification:
    623 111
  • Abstract:
An apparatus for interventional treatment of atherosclerosis at a vascular bifurcation includes structure for receiving a first guidewire and a second guidewire. An exit for the second guidewire is located in a central section of the structure. A first balloon portion is secured to the structure so a proximal end is located adjacent the exit. A second balloon portion is secured to the structure so a distal end is located adjacent the exit on a side of the exit opposite the first balloon portion. An annular gap is defined between the proximal end of the first balloon portion and the distal end of the second balloon portion. The annular gap, at a radial outermost location relative to the structure, has a width that is equal to or less than a width of the annular gap at a radially innermost location relative to the structure. The apparatus also includes an expandable stent that is mountable about the first and second balloon portions.
