We are thrilled that the voice of San Diegans throughout the city will now be heard, said Jeff Powers, the groups spokesman. Our elected officials must be held accountable for their actions, and this referendum does just that.

Cal men's basketball's season ends with 67-65 loss to SMU
ooters. On the final possession of the game, Wallace chose to stay on Kennedy instead of drifting out to Moore on the perimeter. The decision proved fatal, as Moores shot closed the book on the careers of Cobbs, Solomon and Jeff Powers and sent Cal back home for the last time in the 2013-14 season.
Awake and motivated for the start of the second half, the Bears struck fast. A block by Solomon led to a layup by Wallace. Jordan Mathews and Jeff Powers hit three-point shots. Teammates penetrated well enough for Solomon to get consecutive dunks.
Jordan Mathews and Jeff Powers made 3-pointers and Solomon had a dunk on three straight possessions to put the Bears up 50-37. After an intentional foul by the Cougars, David Kravish scored on a short jumper that pushed Cals lead to 17.
What could have been a damaging loss was averted by the improved effort. Jeff Powers, Christian Behrens, Kameron Rooks and Jabari Bird all contributed off the bench. Rooks was an impressive six-of-six from the foul line.
A rare four-point play by "The Rifleman," Jeff Powers, had Cal leading 47-26 with 13:18 to go in the game. Powers was fouled by Andrew Andrews in the act of banking in a three-point shot and he made the free throw to provide Cal with its biggest lead of the game to that point.
Meanwhile, Cal (13-4, 4-0 Pac-12) had five players in double-digit scoring. Tyrone Wallace had 14 points, Richard Solomon 13 and Jeff Powers 12. Kravish finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Justin Cobbs had 11 points and six assists.
