  • US Patent:
    6520583, Feb 18, 2003
  • Filed:
    Aug 24, 2000
  • Appl. No.:
    09/645844
  • Inventors:
Jeffery T. Bonk - Clinton Township MI
  • Assignee:
Fisher Dynamics Corporation - St. Clair Shores MI
  • International Classification:
    B60N 202
  • US Classification:
    297367, 1922231
  • Abstract:
A compact disc recliner mechanism for reducing chucking includes a drum adapted to be fixed to a quadrant for rotation relative to a plate and three locking members having locking surfaces for locking said quadrant relative said plate. At least one locking member moves relative the quadrant from a first position engaging the drum to a second position disengaging the drum. At least one other locking member is fixed relative the plate and movable from a first position engaging the drum to a second position disengaging the drum. A cam moves the first, second, and third locking members from a first position engaging the drum to a second position disengaging the drum. A recliner assembly for use with a seat having a seat back and a seat base includes the compact disc recliner mechanism according to the invention.
  • Simplified Linear Recliner Having A Fixed Pawl

  • US Patent:
    6655741, Dec 2, 2003
  • Filed:
    Dec 27, 2000
  • Appl. No.:
    09/748482
  • Inventors:
Jeffery T. Bonk - Clinton Township MI
  • Assignee:
Fisher Dynamics Corporation - St. Clair Shores MI
  • International Classification:
    B60N 223
  • US Classification:
    29736214, 297375, 188 67
  • Abstract:
A linear recliner assembly is provided having a recliner rod slidably supported within a housing. The recliner rod is selectively engageable with a pawl which is fixed within the housing. The recliner rod is in contact with a cam which is operable to force the recliner rod into engagement with the pawl or enable the recliner rod to fall out of engagement with the pawl. The cam is biased in a first position by a biasing mechanism, such that the recliner rod is engaged with the pawl. The linear recliner assembly is implemented into a seat assembly for enabling an operator to select a plurality of recline positions of a seat back relative to a seat.
  • Seat Assembly With Tunable Tie Bar

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6685272, Feb 3, 2004
  • Filed:
    Nov 5, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/288237
  • Inventors:
Jeffery T. Bonk - Clinton Township MI
David L. Robinson - Sterling Heights MI
  • Assignee:
Fisher Dynamics Corporation - St. Clair Shores MI
  • International Classification:
    A47C 700
  • US Classification:
    2974631, 29744021, 29745218
  • Abstract:
A seat assembly having a tunable tie bar is provided and includes a main pivot and a housing operably supporting the tie bar. The housing is fixedly attached to a seatback of the seat assembly and includes C-shaped members fixedly joined together to provide a space in which the tie bar is disposed. The tie bar is fixedly attached to the housing and is in engagement with the main pivot, whereby the tie bar reacts against the main pivot to provide the seatback with sufficient support. The tie bar serves to strengthen the housing and ultimately provide the seatback with sufficient strength to support an occupant and the accompanying seatbelt loads associated with a seat-mounted retractor assembly. The tie bar is tunable between different seating applications and as such, allows the housing to be used in various seating applications and does not require extensive design and tooling for each application.

  • US Patent:
    6698837, Mar 2, 2004
  • Filed:
    Oct 23, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/278414
  • Inventors:
Srinivas Pejathaya - St. Clair Shores MI
Jeffery T. Bonk - Clinton Township MI
  • Assignee:
Fisher Dynamics Corproration - St. Clair Shores MI
  • International Classification:
    B60N 220
  • US Classification:
    29737812, 297336, 29737813, 296 6503, 296 6509
  • Abstract:
A seat recliner and latch includes a housing, an upper quadrant rotationally supported by the housing, a recliner mechanism supported by the housing and operably engaging the upper quadrant, a latch mechanism pivotally supported by the housing and operable to selectively engage a floor striker. An actuation mechanism is in operable communication with the recliner and latch mechanisms, and is operable in a first position, whereby the recliner mechanism enables rotational adjustment of the upper quadrant, and in a second position whereby the latch mechanism disengages the striker. The latch mechanism is pivotally supported about a pivot axis, wherein the latch mechanism rotates thereabout as the seat folds about a remote axis. An interlock is engaged with latch mechanism and is in selective engagement with the quadrant. The interlock limits a range of rotation of the quadrant when the latch mechanism disengages the striker.

  • US Patent:
    6857703, Feb 22, 2005
  • Filed:
    Nov 5, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/288246
  • Inventors:
Jeffery T. Bonk - Clinton Township MI, US
  • Assignee:
Fisher Dynamics Corporation - St. Clair Shores MI
  • International Classification:
    B60N002/36
  • US Classification:
    29737814, 29737813, 297331, 297336
  • Abstract:
A seat adjustment mechanism includes at least one recliner mechanism, a latch mechanism, and a kneel mechanism. The recliner mechanism serves to articulate a seatback relative to a seat while the floor latch and kneel mechanisms provide for dumping and pivoting of a seat assembly respectively. In addition, a second recliner mechanism, second floor latch mechanism, and second kneel mechanism may be provided on an opposite side of the seat assembly. A first interlock mechanism operably couples the first recliner mechanism and first latch mechanism while a second interlock mechanism couples the second recliner mechanism and second kneel mechanism. The first and second interlock mechanisms prevent the first and second recliner mechanisms from rotating to a usable position if either the first floor latch mechanism or second kneel mechanism is not securely latched.

  • US Patent:
    6890034, May 10, 2005
  • Filed:
    Jan 28, 2003
  • Appl. No.:
    10/352782
  • Inventors:
Jeffery T. Bonk - Clinton Township MI, US
  • Assignee:
Fisher Dynamics Corporation - St. Clair Shores MI
  • International Classification:
    B60N002/22
  • US Classification:
    297367
  • Abstract:
A compact recliner assembly includes a first housing half and a second housing half rotatably supported about the first housing half. A pawl is movable between a first position engaging the second housing half to prohibit rotation relative to the first housing half and a second position disengaging the second housing half to enable rotation relative to the first housing half. A release cam is rotatably supported by the first housing half and engages the pawl to move the pawl between the first and second positions. A first locking cam engages the release cam and is movable between a locked position locking the pawl in the first position and an unlocked position enabling the pawl to move to the second position.

  • US Patent:
    6910738, Jun 28, 2005
  • Filed:
    Jan 28, 2003

  • Inventors:
Jeffery T. Bonk - Clinton Township MI, US

  • US Classification:
    297367, 297364, 29 11, 16325, 16345, 74577 R
  • Abstract:
An adjustable pivot rotatably supports and adjusts a position of a pivoting member within a housing. The adjustable pivot includes a central cylinder defining a first axis and rotatably supporting the pivoting member. A second cylinder extends from the central cylinder and defines a second axis offset from and parallel to the first axis. The second cylinder is supported by the housing and operable for rotation about the second axis to an adjustment position. Rotation of the second cylinder to the adjustment position causes the first axis to orbit about the second axis to an adjusted position. In this manner, the pivoting member is adjustably positioned within the housing.
