Abstract:
A wireless communication device ( ) includes a radio frequency transceiver ( ) adapted for burst transmission responsive to a control signal in accordance with at least one communication protocol and an infrared transceiver ( ) adapted for asynchronous data communication in coordination. The infrared transceiver ( ) is responsive to the control signal to suspend an ongoing data communication for the duration of the burst transmission and to resume the data communication following the burst transmission. A controller ( ) is coupled to each of the radio frequency communication module ( ) and the infrared communication module ( ), and the controller ( ) is operable to generate the control signal in accordance with the at least one communication protocol.

A new test could save arthritis patients time, money and pain. But will it be used?
Until recently, rheumatologists have had few ways to predict which of the new drugs would work best on which patients. Often, "it's a coin flip whether I prescribe drug A or B," said Dr. Jeffrey Curtis, a rheumatology professor at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
In a retrospective analysis of more than 460,000 Medicare beneficiaries, the herpes zoster vaccine was not associated with an increased rate of herpes zoster disease in the weeks after immunization, according to Jeffrey Curtis, MD, of the University of Alabama Birmingham, and colleagues.
But about a third of people who take the drugs can't take methotrexate, says Jeffrey Curtis, MD, MPH, a rheumatologist and assistant professor of medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he also directs the Arthritis Clinical Intervention Program.
