Abstract:

A double blind study label for use in, e. g. , a drug study. A first portion of the label, identifying the test drug, is coupled to a vial containing either the test drug or a placebo. The second portion of the label identifies the actual contents of the vial, along with instructions in case of an adverse reaction, but all of which is concealed by an scratch-off, opaque layer. The second portion is severed from the first portion and held by the testing agency. Thus, every participant believes he/she is taking the drug under test. Should the participant suffer and adverse reaction, the testing agency can be contacted whereby the opaque layer is scratched off the emergency instructions relayed to the participant.

Abstract:

Disclosed are borate and boronate compounds of the formulaeR, Rand Rare independently hydrogen, straight or branched chain alkyl of 1 to 24 carbon atoms, straight or branched chain alkenyl of 2 to 24 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 5 to 12 carbon atoms, aryl of 6 to 10 carbon atoms, aralkyl of 7 to 15 carbon atoms, alkaryl of 7 to 15 carbon atoms; Ar is substituted or unsubstituted aryl of 6 to 10 carbon atoms; and Rand Rare independently defined as for Rand may also be hydroxyphenyl or alkylated hydroxyphenyl, or Rand Rtogether with the —OBO— group form a substituted or unsubstituted 5 or 6 membered ring. The borate and boronate compounds are effective as antiwear, extreme pressure, and friction modifying additives for lubricating oils and fuels.

Abstract:

A bumper guard mountable to a vehicle license-plate mounting fixture, the mounting fixture being adapted to receive a license-plate having at least one mounting recess. The bumper guard comprises a first member having a front and rear surface. The rear surface is configured to be disposed adjacent to the mounting fixture. The license plate can be disposed on the front surface of the first member or on the rear surface between the rear surface of the first member and the mounting fixture. At least one recess in the first member is arranged to align with a fastening member of the vehicle license plate mounting fixture. At least one guard arm extends a predetermined distance from the front surface of the first member. The first member is mountable to the vehicle license plate fixture fastening member by at least one fastening device.

Abstract:

Alkylamine, alkylenedi-, alkylenetri- or alkylenetetra-amine derivatives of N-alkyl-halo-acetamides, are useful as ashless, phosphorus-free and sulfur-free antiwear and friction modifying additives for lubricating oils. The additives are of the formula (I), (II) or (III)G, each independently, is alkylene of 2 to 6 carbon atoms, R, each independently, is alkyl or alkenyl of 1 to 8 carbon atoms and R′, each independently, is hydrogen or alkyl or alkenyl or 1 to 24 carbon atoms, where if an amide nitrogen is monosubstituted by alkyl or alkenyl, said alkyl or alkenyl is from 8 to 24 carbon atoms, where if an amide nitrogen is disubstituted by alkyl or alkenyl, the total carbon atoms of said alkyls or alkenyls combined are from 8 to 18 carbon atoms, and where each amide nitrogen is either mono- or disubstituted by alkyl or alkenyl.
