A nickel zinc alkaline cell has a zinc oxide negative electrode supported on a conductive substrate, an alkaline electrolyte, and a positive electrode having nickel hydroxide paste supported on a conductive substrate. The negative zinc oxide electrode comprises 85% to 95% zinc oxide powder, 1% to 10% bismuth oxide, 1% to 2% of a binder, and 0. 05% to 5% by weight of a fluoride salt chosen from the group consisting of: sodium, potassium, rubidium, caesium, lithium, and mixtures thereof. Typically, the fluoride salt is potassium fluoride, in the amount of 0. 5% by weight of the zinc oxide.

Abstract:
Electrodes and electrolytes for nickel-zinc secondary battery cells possess compositions that limit dendrite formation and other forms of material redistribution in the zinc electrode. In addition, the electrolytes may possess one or more of the following characteristics: good performance at low temperatures, long cycle life, low impedance and suitability for high rate applications.

An improved Ni—Zn cell with a negative electrode substrate plated with tin or tin and zinc during manufacturing has a reduced gassing rate. The copper or brass substrate is electrolytic cleaned, activated, electroplated with a matte surface to a defined thickness range, pasted with zinc oxide electrochemically active material, and baked. The defined plating thickness range of 40-80 μIn maximizes formation of an intermetallic compound CuSn that helps to suppress the copper diffusion from under plating layer to the surface and eliminates formation of an intermetallic compound CuSnduring baking to provide adequate corrosion resistance during battery operation.

Abstract:
A nickel-zinc battery cell is formed with a negative can, a positive cap, and a jelly roll of electrochemically active positive and negative materials within. The inner surface of the can is protected with an anticorrosive material that may be coated or plated onto the can. Good electrical contact between the jelly roll and the cap is achieved through folding the nickel substrate over to contact a positive current collection disk.
Nickel Hydroxide Electrode For Rechargeable Batteries
The nickel hydroxide particles for a nickel hydroxide electrode may be treated using an alkaline solution of a strong oxidizing agent such as sodium or potassium persulfate to modify the surface nickel hydroxide structure. The resulting modified surface structure has been found to impart various benefits to electrodes formed from the nickel hydroxide. It is believed that the oxidation of cobalt compounds at the surface of the nickel hydroxide particles results in a highly conductive cobalt compound that plays an important role in the high reliability, high stability and high capacity utilization of nickel electrodes as described herein.

A New Castle County jury deliberated about 20 hours over three days before finding Otis Phillips, 38, and Jeffrey Phillips, 23, guilty of first-degree murder in the death of tournament organizer Herman Curry, 47.Witnesses testified that Otis Phillips walked up to Curry on the soccer field, tapped him on the shoulder, told him he was going to die, then shot him three times. Authorities said Jeffrey Phillips shot into the crowd, killing Kamara, as he and Otis Phillips tried to escape. The two suspects were found hiding in a nearby backyard, with Jeffrey Phillips suffering from a gunshot wound in the leg, after the car in which they were riding crashed. Sheldon Ogle, 43, a cousin of Otis Phillips, was found fatally shot in the driver's seat of the car after being hit by return gunhosted by a Jamaican family at an unlicensed dance club. Prosecutors say Jeffrey Phillips began spraying bullets outside the party after Williams was shot, and that members of the Sure Shots then plotted to go after Curry, a well-known member of Wilmington's Jamaican immigrant community, in revenge.Attorneys for both Jeffrey Phillips and Otis Phillips tried to discredit several witnesses who testified against the defendants, including three Sure Shots members who were given probation after pleading guilty to participating in a criminal gang and agreeing to testify.
After three days of deliberation, a New Castle County jury found Otis Phillips guilty of 13 charges including first-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter, and Jeffrey Phillips guilty of 11 charges including first-degree murder and manslaughter.Prosecutors charged that Otis Phillips and Jeffrey Phillips, who are not related, were members of the Sure Shots street gang and went to a Jamaican soccer tournament in Eden Park on July 8, 2012 seeking revenge against members of the Jamaican community because a Jamaican man shot and killed a friendEyewitnesses testified at trial that Otis Phillips and Jeffrey Phillips walked into the park together that day, around 2:30 p.m., dressed in black and with grim looks on their faces. Otis walked directly to Herman Curry and tapped Curry on his shoulder with his right hand and as Curry turned, Otis rAs this was happening, witnesses testified Jeffrey Phillips pulled out a gun, turned toward the crowd and began shooting. At that moment witnesses said they saw Alexander Kamara Jr., who was waiting for his turn to play in the tournament, drop to the ground and never move again. But the jury apparently also believed the defense argument that the killing of Kamara was a reckless act by Jeffrey Phillips and not an intentional one. The panel found both defendants guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter for Kamara. And while prosecutors had argued that Jeffrey Phillips was guilty of riot and third degree assault as part of a melee at a Bridgeville convenience store in Feb. 2012 involving the Sure Shots, the jury instead convicted Jeffrey Phillips of the lesser charges of disorderly conduct and offensive touchi
A jury on Friday convicted 38-year-old Otis Phillips and 23-year-old Jeffrey Phillips of first-degree murder in the death of 47-year-old tournament organizer Herman Curry. The two defendants, who are not related, also were convicted of manslaughter in the death of 16-year-old soccer player Alexander
