Abstract:

The apparatus of the invention (a) monitors a subscriber line for the presence of DTMF tones, (b) intercepts DTMF tones by transmitting a set of DTMF harmonics onto the subscriber line, (c) detects the intercepted DTMF tones and records them or the digits they represent, (d) analyzes the intercepted digits to determine whether a long distance number has been dialed, and (e) if a long distance call has been dialed, transmits onto the subscriber line a DTMF signal which includes the intercepted DTMF signal plus a service provider access code DTMF signal inserted before it. According to a presently preferred embodiment, the apparatus includes a voltage sensor which detects a drop in voltage whenever a phone connected to the same subscriber line as the apparatus goes off-hook. The voltage detector turns the apparatus âONâ when an off-hook condition is detected. The preferred apparatus also includes an energy sensor which rapidly detects the presence of any fixed frequency tone and triggers a harmonics tone generator which preferably generates second harmonics of each of the ârow frequenciesâ.

Abstract:

A distributed processing system includes a plurality of cells where each cell processes information in response to a type of event, and cells communicate with each other according to an (asynchronous) event-reaction protocol. Cells maintain mailing lists which are associated with events and which indicate the address(es) of cell(s) to whom a message is sent in response to the event. According to one embodiment, at least one cell is provided with the ability to read, write, and delete any address on any mailing list in the system. According to another embodiment, at least one cell keeps a list of events (subscription list) that are deemed important by the user where it is the cells responsibility to insure that it remains subscribed to the mailing lists associated with these events. According to another embodiment, at least one cell serves more than one mailing list and preferably keeps a list of the mailing lists it serves. This cell also has the ability to move subscribers from one mailing list to another, to modify which mailing list is the currently active mailing list or to make a plurality of mailing lists simultaneously active.

Abstract:

An object oriented processor array includes a library of functional objects which are instantiated by commands through a system object and which communicate via a high level language. The object oriented processor array may be embodied in hardware, software, or a combination of hardware and software. Each functional object may include a discrete hardware processor or may be embodied as a virtual processor within the operations of a single processor. According to one embodiment, the object oriented processor array is formed on a single chip or on a single processor chip and an associated memory chip. When several objects are instantiated on a single chip, pins may be assigned to each object via a high level command language. Methods and apparatus for allocating memory to instantiated objects are disclosed. Methods and apparatus for scheduling when several virtual processors are embodied within the operations of a single microprocessor are also disclosed.

Abstract:

A telephony system for a premises includes lines operably coupled to telephony devices, and trunks operably coupled to diverse networks (such as the PSTN network and an Internet-based VOIP network). A voice router includes a switch matrix operably coupled between the lines and trunks. In processing an outgoing voice call placed on a particular line, switch control means controls the switch matrix to connect the particular line to at least two trunks (preferably in accordance with at least one routing table). The switch control means analyzes DTMF digit data (corresponding to DTMF digit tone(s) generated on the line) to determine a classification tag for the outgoing voice call, and disconnects the particular line from at least one trunk based upon the classification tag to enable the outgoing voice call to proceed over another one of the at least two trunks. An incoming voice call received over a particular trunk is connected to one or more lines by the switch matrix (preferably in accordance with at least one routing table).

Abstract:

Architectures and methods are provided for efficiently dividing a processing task into tasks for a programmable real time signal processor (SPROC) and tasks for a decision-making microprocessor. The SPROC is provided with a non-interrupt structure where data flow is through a multiported central memory. The SPROC is also programmed in an environment which requires nothing more than graphic entry of a block diagram of the user's design. In automatically implementing the block diagram into silicon, the SPROC programming/development environment accounts for and provides software connection and interfaces with a host microprocessor. The programming environment preferably includes: a high-level computer screen entry system which permits choosing, entry, parameterization, and connection of a plurality of functional blocks; a functional block cell library which provides source code representing the functional blocks; and a signal processor scheduler/compiler which uses the functional block cell library and the information entered into the high-level entry system to compile a program and to output source program code for a program memory and source data code for the data memory of the (SPROC), as well as a symbol table which provides a memory map which maps SPROC addresses to variable names which the microprocessor will refer to in separately compiling its program.

An apparatus for converting an input voltage into a related output current, is disclosed and generally comprises: a resistance means in series with the voltage input; first and second double output current mirrors, wherein each output of the first double output mirror is connected to a corresponding output of the second double output mirror, and the inputs of the double output current mirrors are connected; and an operational amplifier with the inverting input connected to ground, the noninverting input connected to the resistance means, and the op amp output connected to the inputs of the first and second double output mirrors, wherein first outputs of the first and second double output mirrors are connected to the noninverting input of the operational amplifier, and the second outputs of the first and second double output mirrors are connected to the output current. The disclosed transconductance amplifier is advantageously used to transform an input voltage into an input current for a continuous time analog to digital converter which uses current steering techniques.

Abstract:

A self-timed high speed data communications system includes an N-bit wide data path and a three-bit wide event path. Six states of the event path are used to indicate when data is on the data path for reading and when the data path is available for transmission of data. In a presently preferred embodiment, the event path has three stable states and three meta-stable states. The initial state of the event path is a first stable state. When a user places data on the data path, the event path assumes a first meta-stable state. After the data is read by all users, the event path assumes a second stable state. Further transmission and reception of data cycles the event path through alternating meta-stable and stable states. The event path is preferably zero dominant (one recessive) and stable states are indicated when only one of the three bits are asserted by all users. Meta-stable states are indicated when a transmitting user asserts one bit of the event path and at least one other users asserts another bit of the event path.
