Abstract:

A method for determining whether the terminal is authorized to receive the selected service is practiced in a terminal of a conditional access system in which a user selects a service, the selected service being associated with a frequency, the terminal having a tuner and a secure element with at least one authorized entitlement unit number stored therein. The method includes receiving at least one encrypted entitlement control message corresponding to the service, and decrypting each of the at least one encrypted entitlement control message in the secure element, each decrypted entitlement control message revealing at least one first entitlement number associated with the selected service. The method further includes determining that the terminal is authorized to receive the selected service when any first entitlement number of any decrypted entitlement control message represents any number of the at least one authorized entitlement unit number. Alternatively, the method includes receiving at least one entitlement control message corresponding to the service, and authenticating each of the at least one entitlement control message in the secure element, each authenticated entitlement control message revealing at least one first entitlement number associated with the selected service.

Abstract:

An improved telephone paging system and method are disclosed. The sytem interfaces with a conventional telephone branching system, such as a PBX, and remote pager devices which are worn by subscribers to the system. A plurality of PBX extension telephone lines are connected to the system via a subscriber line interface, and one PBX extension line is connected to this system via a control line interface. The subscriber line interface is used to detect ring signals on the selected extension lines. When a ring signal has been detected on a selected line, the microprocessor-based system sends command signals to the PBX to place the incoming call on hold. The system identifies a paging code signal distinctively corresponding to the subscriber line on which the ring signal was detected. The identified paging code signal is sent to a transmitter which transmits the paging code signal to all pagers within its range. The pager which distincitvely corresponds to the paging code signal will be activated and produce a paging signal.

Abstract:

A system including a controller and a pool of computing resources to run virtual machines are configured to automatically provision each virtual machine with unique cryptographic constructs. The controller receives a request to instantiate a virtual machine based on an image/template. The controller determines an authentication credential for a registration authority that the virtual machine will use. The controller determines the computing resources to run the virtual machine, and instructs the computing resources to boot the virtual machine. The controller passes the authentication credential to the virtual machine. After receiving the authentication credential, the virtual machine authenticates the registration authority and sends a request for the cryptographic constructs. The virtual machine securely receives the cryptographic constructs from the registration authority, enabling the virtual machine to securely communicate with other computing entities.
