Abstract:
A combiner that calculates energy produced by each panel feed during the daytime, and calculates a resistance value needed to calculate the energy by injecting a known current into each panel feed at nighttime and measuring the resulting voltage across a resistive element in each panel feed. A voltage tap across the protection device in each panel feed allows logic and control circuitry to measure the voltage across each protection device. At nighttime, a known current is injected into each panel feed and the voltage across each protection device is measured. Plugging the current and voltage into Ohm's Law, a resistance of each protection device is calculated, then that resistance value is used during the daytime to calculate energy produced by each string in real time and to monitor each string's performance. When an individual string's performance wanes, an alarm is indicated to help the operator troubleshoot which individual panel(s) within the string is responsible for that string's underperformance.

Abstract:
A touch safe system is provided for an electrical panel, such as a panel board or residential load center. The system includes a phase barrier to isolate branch connectors along a center portion of the electrical panel, a top central cover that snaps onto the phase barrier and two side bus covers. The side bus covers are arranged along opposite sides of the phase barrier over opposite side portions of the electrical panel. The system further includes snap-in filler plates to cover any exposed portion of a branch connector which is unoccupied by a circuit breaker. Each of the snap-in filler plates is secured between the top center bus cover and one of the side bus covers. A snap-in lug cover can also be provided for each circuit breaker on the panel, and secured between one of the side bus covers and a recessed portion of the circuit breaker.

An optical waveguide sheet is fastened to an inward facing access door of the load center When the door is closed, the optical waveguide sheet is positioned so that one portion is juxtaposed with the circuit breaker A in the load center, to enable the optical waveguide sheet to receive an optical signal A characterizing current in the circuit breaker. The optical waveguide sheet is further positioned so that another portion is juxtaposed with an optical window of an aggregator. The optical waveguide sheet is configured to internally reflect the optical signal A within its body and to conduct the internally reflected optical signal from the circuit breaker to the optical window of the aggregator. The aggregator may provide information characterizing current usage to an alarm, a measurement device, the smart grid, or a storage device for later use.

Abstract:
Methods and systems for minimizing exposure to live parts in a panelboard allow safe insulation and removal of a circuit breaker or other electrical devices from the panelboard. The methods and systems provide an isolation assembly for the panelboard that isolates and prevents contact with energized portions of the circuit breaker as well as the conductors in the panelboard. The isolation assembly covers up the energized part of the circuit breaker, including the line terminal extending from the circuit breaker, and any accessible portion of the conductors in the panelboard. Additionally, for bolt-on type circuit breakers, the isolation assembly replaces the bolts or screws typically used to fasten the line terminals to the conductors in the panelboard with standoff screws that insulate metal screwdrivers and similar tools from the energized part of the circuit breaker.

Abstract:
Method and apparatus for minimizing exposure to live parts in the panelboard allow safe insertion and removal of a circuit breaker from the panelboard. The method and apparatus provide a shutter assembly that automatically closes off access to conductors in the panelboard until a circuit breaker is inserted in the panelboard. Inserting the circuit breaker in the panelboard causes the shutter assembly to open and allow the circuit breaker to contact the conductors. When the circuit breaker is removed from the panelboard, access to the conductors is automatically closed off again. Such a shutter assembly allows operators to safely insert and remove a circuit breaker and other electrical device from the panelboard.

Abstract:
A remote controllable monitoring system includes a movable sensor to monitor characteristic(s) of electrical components of equipment housed at different locations inside of an electrical enclosure. The movable sensor is movably mounted inside of the electrical enclosure. The monitoring system can also control the power supplied to the electrical components (e.g., turn power ON or OFF). A remote device interacts with the monitoring system to provide a user with remote control over the functions of the monitoring system. The remote device can include an interactive user interface with a virtual map of the electrical components. Accordingly, the user can monitor electrical components and turn OFF power to the electrical components if a problem or perspective problem is detected, via the interactive user interface of the remote device without opening or being near the electrical enclosure.
