Disclosed is an improved parylene deposition chamber wherein reactive monomer vapors enter the chamber tangentially so as to create a rotational flow of vapor within the interior of the chamber. A substrate support fixture is positioned within the chamber and rotated in a direction counter to the rotational flow of vapor. An annular space exists between the outer edge of the fixture and the inner wall of the chamber so as to allow the rotating vapor to descend freely within the chamber. Waste of parylene chemicals is minimized by eliminating the need for the positioning of baffles within the chamber.
Method Of Preparing Thin Supported Films By Vacuum Deposition
A method for preparing thin supported films by vacuum is disclosed. The method results in a substrate with windows. The windows are cutout (etched) areas that are covered by a thin film. The method for creating the substrate with thin film covering requires: masking off one surface of the metal substrate with a maskant; placing the metal substrate under a vacuum; treating the unmasked surface by plasma etching; coating the treated surface with a film while still under vacuum; removing substrate from vacuum; remove the masking; treating the previously masked side with photo resist; exposing the side treated with photo resist to artwork of a desired pattern; exposing the substrate to a suitable solution; chemically etching in areas selectively exposed by the artwork; neutralizing the substrate; and removing the etched parts from the substrate.

Abstract:
A technique for evaluating the topography of a cornea in which a virtual object of a keratoscope pattern isured. The topography system includes a structured light source to create the keratoscope pattern or another diagnostic pattern, an optical assembly to focus the created pattern upon or behind the cornea, and for capturing the image reflected off the patient's eye and directing the reflected image toward an imaging system for processing. Light emitted by the light source is preferably not in the visible range, to minimize discomfort to the patient. Since the topography is evaluated with a projected virtual image, there is no nose or brow shadow, thereby allowing better corneal coverage. The optical system includes an aperture stop which is preferably conjugate with a point behind the corneal surface approximating the center of a normal cornea. Thus, wide angle capture is achieved as reflected rays reaching the imaging system appear as if they originated at the center of the cornea.
A cold trap for condensing and polymerizing residual vapor. The cold trap comprises a containment vessel which comprises a vertical sidewall defining a cylindrical inner surface of substantially constant diameter. Fluidly connected to the sidewall is a vapor inlet line which enters the containment vessel tangentially at a point near the top end thereof such that the vapor entering the containment vessel through the vapor inlet line will impinge against the inner surface of the sidewall and flow in a generally rotational pattern within the containment vessel. The cold trap further comprises a cooling member which is positioned within the containment vessel for facilitating the condensation and polymerization of the vapor.
Modular Parylene Deposition Apparatus Having Vapor Deposition Chamber Extension
A tank-like deposition chamber for use in depositing vapors on desired substrates. The deposition chamber has top and bottom ends, and includes a floor which defines the bottom end thereof. In addition to the floor, the deposition chamber includes a vertical sidewall having an inner surface and an upper edge, and at least one wall extension member which is releasably attached to the upper edge of the sidewall and has an upper rim which defines the top end of the deposition chamber. The wall extension member, sidewall and floor define an interior compartment. Attached to the sidewall and communicating with the interior compartment is a vapor inlet port and a first vapor outlet port. Additionally, attached to the wall extension member and communicating with the interior compartment is a second vapor outlet port. The wall extension member increases the storage capacity of the deposition chamber when attached to the upper edge of the sidewall.

Abstract:
A novel psychophysical visual test is proposed for testing a person for glaucoma, and based on the discovery that a frequency doubling phenomenon is produced by isoluminent color visual stimuli. More specifically, it is proposed to construct a visual stimulus for which alternating colors in a grating pattern is the only basis for producing the frequency doubling phenomenon. That is, the colors are of the same luminance or intensity level, i. e. , isoluminent, but each grating or pattern alternates from one color to another. Preferably, the colors are complementary color pairs, such as blue and yellow.
