Abstract:

A vacuum system for applying vacuum to the body cavity of a patient where a vacuum flow indicator is provided that provides a visual display of the relative flow in a vacuum line to a medical patient. The vacuum indictor has indicia indicative of the no flow condition, a low flow condition, a high flow condition of flow through the vacuum system and has a space between the indicia of high flow and no flow so that the caregiver can visually get a quick and easy perception of the relative flow through the system. The vacuum flow indicator is not intended to be an accurate means of measuring that flow but only a guide that can aid the caregiver in determining and correcting a potential or real problem in the vacuum system.

Abstract:

A heat flux sensor is used in conjunction with a patient sensor, such as a patient temperature sensor, and which is secured to the patient in close proximity to the patient sensor. The heat flux sensor monitors the heat flux between the patient and the environment. Upon dislodgement of the patient probe, the heat flux sensor senses a change in heat flux that is of a predetermined amount and provides a signal indicating that the patient probe has become partially or fully dislodged from the patient. In the case of a patient heat sensor, the use of a heat flux sensor provides a quicker and larger signal than would be seen by merely monitoring the change in temperature due to partial or full probe dislodgement.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to a rupture-stable gelatin filled capsule, produced from xylose cross-linked gel masses. The xylose cross-linked masses are made from a 0.01%-2% xylose solution combined with gelatin masses. The gelatin masses may be produced from gelatin of bovine, pork, fish, chicken, duck, or other poultry. The xylose solutions and gelatin masses are then mixed at temperatures from 135-200 F. and yield viscosities from 10,000-16,000 cps, creating a capsule which can be resistant to rupture in gastric digestives, but which will then rupture after a time period within the intestinal tract.
