Abstract:

An archery bowstring release includes a hand grip having a forwardly extending post pivotally mounting a bowstring hook member releasably engaged by a locking mechanism that serves to adjust the position of the hook on the hook member for releasing a bowstring and projecting an arrow to a target. In one embodiment, the hook member is secured adjustably to the post to adjust the angle of the hook for various degrees of sensitivity of bowstring release. In another embodiment, the hook member is mounted pivotally on a support frame carried pivotally on a cam member pivoted to the post and arranged to engage the hook member for release by pivotal movement of the support frame through a small angle that is adjustable by adjustment of the cam member rotationally relative to the post. The hook member may be secured adjustably to the post or cam member either by a pin and groove assembly on the post and cam member or by a worm gear mounted rotationally on the post and engaging a gear thread on the hook member or cam member. Both angle adjusting mechanisms afford substantially infinitely minute increments of adjustment over a predetermined range, and the position of release of the bowstring is substantially unpredictable and hence devoid of involuntary body movements which otherwise are induced by anxiety and tension in anticipation of releasing the bowstring. A safety lever is mounted pivotally on the hand grip and arranged to retractably engage the pin to move the latter into and out of engagement with one of the grooves on the hook member or cam member to releasably secure the hook member or cam member against rotation.
