Abstract:

Polyurethanes made using compounds of formula A:Q-(R6)-M-(R7)-NR3R4where Q is OH or NRR; M is O or NRwhere Ris Ror H; Ris alkyl or an alkylene alcohol of from 1 to 6 carbons, especially CH, CHCH, or CHCHOH; Ris alkyl or an alkylene alcohol of from 1 to 6 carbons, especially CH, CHCH, or —CHCHOH; Ris hydrogen or alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbons, especially H, CHor CHCH; Ris hydrogen; where Ris an alkylene group of from 2 to 5 carbons; and wherein Ris an alkylene group of from 2 to 5 carbons. Illustrative catalysts of this invention include but are not limited to N,N,N′-trimethylbis(aminoethyl)ether, dimethylaminoethoxypropylamine, and (3-aminopropyl)(2-hydroxyethyl)methylamine.

Abstract:

The present invention provides processes for producing re-bonded polyurethane foam constructs that are useful in applications such as carpet underlayments. According to the invention, a tertiary amine is employed as a catalyst either alone, or preferably in combination with other catalysts in a binder which comprises an organic isocyanate and a polyol. Inclusion of a tertiary amine as a catalyst dramatically increases production throughput.

Abstract:

Provided herein are catalysts useful in providing foam products which are produced using an organic poly isocyanate as a starting material. A catalyst according to the present invention includes the tris-(hydroxyethyl)methyl ammonium cation, and optionally potassium cation, in combination with a variety of possible counter anions present to maintain charge balance and for compatibility. A catalyst according to the invention is preferably used in conjunction with one or more conventional tertiary amine catalysts in a foam producing process. The foams may be polyurethane foams, polyisocyanurate foams, flexible foams, or elastomeric foams.

Abstract:

A composite thermal barrier material for use in electric and hybrid vehicle battery packs is described herein. The composite material comprises a porous core layer, a pair of flame retardant layers disposed on either side of the porous core layer, and at least one radiant barrier layer disposed between the porous core layer and one of the pair of flame retardant layers. In some exemplary embodiments, the porous core layer is a thermally expandable layer.
