Abstract:
A nitrogen-permeable structure includes a porous support and a nitrogen-permeable membrane adjacent to the porous support. The nitrogen-permeable membrane includes a first metal and a second metal, wherein the first metal is selected from niobium, tantalum, and vanadium, and the second metal is different from the first metal.
Systems And Methods For Enhanced Weathering And Calcining For Co2 Removal From Air
A plurality of carbonation plots are positioned in communication with atmospheric carbon dioxide to facilitate sequestration thereof via ambient weathering. The carbonation plots include a composition rich in metal oxides, which are positioned within the environment, such as on non-arable land, and exposed to the environment to react with carbon dioxide in the air and form metal carbonates. After about one year of exposure, the composition is recollected and calcined to produce a carbon dioxide stream and replenish the metal oxides, which can be redistributed in the carbonation plots to sequester additional carbon dioxide. The systems and methods of the present disclosure enable capture and redistribution of carbon dioxide for industrial-scale uses for very abundant quarry minerals and enable large-scale low-cost carbon capture projects for municipalities or corporations. COremoval from air via these methods and systems have a similar or lower cost than COremoval using DAC with synthetic sorbents or solvents.
Nitrogen Extraction From A Gaseous Carbon Dioxide Reactant Stream
An input stream of gaseous nitrogen and carbon dioxide is introduced into a first interior volume of a separation vessel that is divided into first and second interior volumes by a separation membrane that includes a metal layer. The metal layer selectively permits movement of nitrogen through the metal layer. An output stream of gaseous nitrogen and carbon dioxide is conveyed out of the first interior volume and into a reaction vessel. The volume fraction of carbon dioxide is greater in the output stream than in the input stream; the volume fraction of nitrogen is reduced in the output stream relative to the input stream. Nitrogen is removed from the second interior volume to maintain a gradient of nitrogen partial pressure across the separation membrane that causes net transport of nitrogen from the first interior volume through the separation membrane into the second interior volume.
Ammonia Synthesis Using A Catalytic Nitrogen-Selective Membrane
The invention relates to a metallic membrane for nitrogen separation, the method of making the membrane and methods of using the membrane. The invention also relates to a metallic membrane for disassociation of nitrogen and subsequent reaction with hydrogen to produce ammonia at moderate conditions compared to a conventional Haber-Bosch process.

Abstract:
Hierarchically porous graphitic (HPG) carbon is provided via improved methods. The first approach is based on forming a 3-D polymer network from a first precursor and a second precursor and carbonizing it. The carbon in the resulting carbon structure comes from the first precursor, while the second precursor volatizes to form the pores. However, the second precursor is temperature resistant, such that carbonization of the first precursor is underway when the second precursor volatizes. The second approach is based on forming a structured polymer from first and second precursors. More specifically, the second precursor forms a second polymer having a micelle structure and the first precursor forms a first polymer that coats the micelle structure of the second polymer. The structured polymer is carbonized. Here also the carbon in the resulting carbon structure comes from the first precursor, while the second precursor volatizes to form the pores.

valid. I think the lower end of $100 per ton of CO2 produced through their approach is probably doable in five years or so and that their higher end of $250 per [ton of] CO2 is more doable with their technology today, says Jennifer Wilcox, an associate professor at the Colorado School of Mines.
