Abstract:
In accordance with the invention as embodied and broadly described herein, the present invention features a milling mandrel attachable to a milling device and comprising a primary cylindrical barrel; a plurality of cutting bits removably attached to the primary barrel and arranged about a support base within a cutting/sawing area or segment or sector defined on the primary barrel, wherein the cutting bits are arranged in a predetermined bit pattern via a bit location system and patterned cutting bit system; and a plurality of chunking or milling bits also removably attached to the primary barrel and arranged within a chunking or milling area or segment or sector also defined on the primary barrel and adjacent and operable with each of the cutting or sawing sectors.

Abstract:
Systems and methods for milling paving material. A self-powered milling system includes a cutting head to mill the paving material. The cutting head is powered by a milling system motor that speeds up production and enables the milling of very thick asphalt in a single pass. A milling system carriage follows the contour of the ground, provides stability during the milling process, is selectively adjusted to provide cuts at various angles, and enables precise edge milling. A breaker bar holds the paving material down as it tries to lift up during the milling process, and is employed to assist in the breaking up of the milled aggregate.
Asphalt Milling Attachment With Depth Control And Bit Access
A milling attachment device has a rotating hood and provides both cutting depth control and bit access by rotating the rotating hood. The rotating hood is rotated by an actuating mechanism such as an extending cylinder, a slew drive, or drive rings. The rotating hood may also have a skid foot and/or a wheel to assist in the depth control. The milling attachment device may be connected to a host vehicle so that it can be maneuvered into position for milling or maintenance.
