A column airflow power apparatus for creating mechanical power is provided. The column airflow power apparatus comprises a column structure having an open first end and an open second end with airflow moving through the column structure from the first end to the second end. A rotatable blade is mounted within the column structure with the airflow rotating the rotatable blade. A power shaft is connected to the rotatable blade with the power shaft rotating with the rotatable blade. A rotatable turret device is mounted to the second end of the column structure and an adjustable airfoil mounted to the rotatable turret. An air concentrator can be mounted within the column structure between the first end and the rotatable blade.
A recording and retrieval device is disclosed. The recording and retrieval device generates an electron beam which selectively exposes portions of a film to thereby record digital data on the film. An input circuit adjusts a characteristic of the electron beam selectively expose portions of the film. An anode target is exposed to the electron beam through exposed portions of the film and arranged to generate anode current indicative of digital data stored on the film. A support may secure a sheet of film such that electrons pass through exposed portions of the film. An output circuit operatively coupled to the anode couples the anode current to an external output device.
System For Substituting Television Programs Transmitted Via Telephone Lines
A market research system is shown for substituting stored television programs for regularly scheduled, broadcast television programs having a particular identification code wherein the substitute television programs may be transmitted via telephone lines to the households of cooperating panelists for storage. The substitute television programs may be stored and/or transmitted to the panelists's home in compacted or noncompacted form. In compacted form, a memory stores the first frame of video information for the substitute television program and for subsequent frames, stores only the video information representing a change from the video information stored for a previous frame. In one embodiment, the stored video information represents the difference between each frame and the first frame. In a second embodiment, the video change information represents the differences between each frame and the immediately preceding frame. A system for encoding an identification code in the leading overscan portion of the active line period of a horizontal line of video information is also shown.
A recording device is disclosed. The recording device generates an electron beam which selectively exposes portions of an electron-sensitive and/or UV light-sensitive film to thereby record digital data on the film. A retrieval device is also disclosed. The retrieval device selectively directs a generated electron beam towards a predefined point on a target. The target is simultaneously exposed to a light pattern formed by shining UV light through exposed portions of an electron-sensitive and/or UV light-sensitive film to thereby develop an output signal representative of digital data stored on the film at a location corresponding to the predefined point on the target.
