Skills:
My goal is to be a positive role model that my students will trust. As I have engaged students in teaching my lessons both in the 2nd and 6th grades it enabled them to focus and eager to learn. By thinking outside of the box, I challenge students to use manipulatives, technology, make real life connections and give them positive reinforcement in discovering a skill. Having the students work together and investigate a topic they are able to understand, apply and analyze using their developed knowledge and skills. Students need expectations and I have learned to be clear and model them so they understand our goals.

To be an effective teacher you must be positive and lead by example. Classroom management is key in having a successful classroom. There will never be negative put downs or corrections, yelling, comparison to siblings or other students or disrespect in my classroom. There will be cooperation, participation and respect in and outside of my class room. I will elaborate how important it is for students to ask questions, be inquisitive and give me their opinion or suggestions during or after a lesson to improve upon it. Lessons can be changed, or even goals, to adapt to my students interests and learning needs. At the end of a lesson, I have had students rewrite the objective to make a deeper connection.

Although I have observed and taught for the past several months and learned of the rigorous and crucial assessing of SGOs, Danielson observations and state testing, I feel that my students need to have activities during a lesson to be able to synthesize a skill set and judge its validity. During my lessons I have used manipulatives, technology and research tools while working independently or collaboratively in groups. During the formative assessment and observation of my students I have used exit tickets, a wraparound activity, table texting and various other activities. They have told me how much fun it is during these activities having no idea that I am scaffolding or raising the bar to challenge them in the content and skill!
