Abstract:
A bumper protection device for automobile bumpers to shield the bumpers from impact attaches to the automobile by a fabric shroud which attaches around the hood and trunk latch and suspends an impact resisting padded guard portion, adapted to the vehicle bumper, covering the entire front or rear bumper, the padded guard portion being drawn partially around the sides of the bumper and anchored by at least one elastic strap attached to opposing ends of the bumper guard portion, each elastic strap being further attached to the tires or wheel wells of the automobile retaining the bumper protection device over the entire rear bumper surface and around the sides of the bumper.

Abstract:
Femtosecond pulse trains in waveguide lasers with high fundamental repetition rates are achieved by exploiting the nonlinearity in the waveguide. Components of the apparatus include an optical resonator, a saturable absorber for starting and stabilizing mode-locking, and a gain element. Part of the laser cavity or the entire laser cavity is made of waveguide or fiber (collectively called “waveguide” herein). The net dispersion of the laser cavity can be anomalous. This anomalous dispersion in combination with the positive self-phase modulation nonlinearity in the waveguide creates soliton formation to shorten the pulse duration in the invented lasers. Conversely, a normal dispersive waveguide with negative self-phase modulation nonlinearity can also be used.

Abstract:
Techniques which employ structure-from-motion modeling techniques to produce 3-D models of any desired accuracy of any surface I the techniques, a pattern is applied to the surface to be modeled The pattern includes elements which are unique within the pattern as applied to the surface and which have a density in the pattern such that when two-dimensional images are made of the surface, correlatable features having the density required for the desired accuracy may be extracted from the two dimensional images In one example of the techniques, a consumer may make the images required to produce a model of his or her body by donning a garment with a pattern having the necessary uniqueness and density, and then using any digital camera to take pictures of their body wearing the garment The model may then be produced from the pictures.

Abstract:
Compounds of formula (I): ##STR1## as single stereoisomers or mixtures thereof and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts inhibit matrix metalloproteases, such as interstitial collagenases, and are useful in the treatment of mammals having disease states alleviated by the inhibition of such matrix metalloproteases, for example arthritic diseases or bone resorption diseases, such as osteoporosis.
The disclosed technology generally relates to quartz crystal devices and more particularly to quartz crystal devices configured to vibrate in torsional mode. In one aspect, a quartz crystal device configured for temperature sensing comprises a fork-shaped quartz crystal comprising a pair of elongate tines laterally extending from a base region in a horizontal lengthwise direction of the fork-shaped quartz crystal. Each of the tines has formed on one or both of opposing sides thereof a vertically protruding line structure laterally elongated in the horizontal lengthwise direction. The quartz crystal device further comprises a first electrode and a second electrode formed on the one or both of the opposing sides of each of the tines and configured such that, when an electrical bias is applied between the first and second electrodes, the fork-shaped quartz crystal vibrates in a torsional mode in which each of the tines twists about a respective axis extending in the horizontal lengthwise direction.
