A media control system enables a device-agnostic and source-agnostic entertainment experience through use of an internet-enabled user device. The user device includes a client application for navigating through media or entertainment content, controlling media devices according to a type of media content selected by the user, and sharing media experiences via social networks. The user device includes smartphones, tablet computers, and other internet-enabled processor-based devices. The media control system leverages the internet access of the user device to enable search and discovery of all available media content. A recommendation engine coupled to the client application learns media preferences from user behavior, generates from numerous disparate media sources recommended media choices corresponding to the media preferences, and presents the recommended media choices on the user device.

Abstract:

The present invention is generally directed toward a system and methods of placing content, including advertising, content on a mobile device in response to an event in the operational lifecycle of the device. The event defines an opportunity between power-up and power-off when the user's attention is likely drawn to the device. The inserted content can be any media form including graphic, image, video, animation, audio or textual and can be fully interactive. The content is inserted before, during, or after an event in a minimally intrusive manner so as not to interfere with the communications features of the device. The system and method reward the user for each display of content.

Abstract:

Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses may provide a mobile device with the ability to locally detect fraudulent activity by an unauthorized user. A mobile device may include a fraud detection module that may build a historical usage pattern of a user of the mobile device. The fraud detection module may monitor usage of the mobile device for multiple parameters and record events pertaining to the parameters. Periodically or in response to each event, the fraud detection module may compute a current usage pattern using each of the current parameter values. The fraud detection module may compare the current usage pattern with the historical usage pattern and may use the comparison result to compute a confidence score. The fraud detection module may then compare the confidence score with a preset confidence score to determine whether fraudulent activity is occurring at the mobile device.
