Jorge Messeguer said Edgar Jimenez Lugo would apparently go to a facility, one of these centers for support, for aid in San Antonio, Texas. His office did not immediately respond to requests for further information.He was born in San Diego but raised in Mexico by his grandmother. Authorities said Jimenez Lugo said he had been forcibly recruited by drug traffickers when he was 11, and confessed to working for the South Pacific drug cartel, led by reputed drug lord Hector Beltran Leyva.

Jimenez, whose name is also given as Edgar Jimenez Lugo, was arrested in December 2010 as he and his sisters were attempting to leave Mexico and seek refuge with a relative in San Diego. At least one of his sisters is also believed to have aided the drug cartel by disposing of bodies.

Edgar Jimenez Lugo, known as "El Ponchis," was given the maximum sentenced allowed for a minor in the central state of Morelos, said state prosecutor Jose Manuel Serrano Falmerol. Jimenez was tried in a state court because Mexico does not have a justice system to try minors at the federal level.
