An optical receiver for enhanced optical power sensitivity for optical signal at 10 Gbps includes an optical package and a supporting electrical circuitry. The optical package includes a semiconductor optical amplifier to pre-amplify the incoming weak signal, a tunable optical filter to suppress the spontaneous noise of the amplifier and a PIN diode as an optical detector. A supporting electrical circuitry includes a control loop for the filter to track the peak of the optical signal. By optimizing the parameters of all the elements, the final sensitivity of the optical receiver can be increased significantly. The device may be realized in a single package.

Abstract:
An optical distribution system for vehicle information systems installed aboard passenger vehicles, such as automobiles and aircraft, and methods for manufacturing and using same. Each system resource of the vehicle information system couples with the optical distribution system via an optical transceiver system. The optical transceiver systems provide a link interface between the system resources and the optical distribution system for supporting the transmission and reception of optical communication signals among the system resources via the optical distribution system. The optical distribution system couples the system resources via fiber optic communication connections that can support high data transfer rates. Being light weight, compact, and requiring little, if any, electrical power, the optical distribution system advantageously supports full communications among the system resources of the vehicle information system, while reducing the costs of operating and transporting the vehicle information system aboard the passenger vehicle.

Abstract:
A surgical laser capsulorhexis system includes a laser source, configured to generate a laser cutting beam; a beam guidance system, configured to guide the laser cutting beam from the laser source; a beam focuser, configured to guide the laser cutting beam from the laser source and to generate a focused laser cutting beam, the focused laser cutting beam having a two-dimensional beam pattern; a beam coupler, configured to redirect the focused laser cutting beam; and a patient interface lens, configured to guide the redirected focused laser cutting beam to a tissue surface of a procedure eye.
A crankshaft having a crankpin journal, a main journal joined to the crankpin journal by a crank web, is provided. The crankpin journal and the main journal have a hardened surface upto a first pre-determined depth. The crankshaft further includes a crankpin journal fillet joining the crankpin journal and the crank web. The crankpin journal fillet includes a hardened surface strengthened by a peening process. The crankshaft further includes a main journal fillet joining the main journal and the crank web. The main journal fillet includes a hardened surface strengthened by the peening process. The crankshaft also includes an oil passage extending through the crankpin journal and the main journal. The oil passage extends such that a portion of a surface proximate to the oil passage is hardened to a second pre-determined depth.

Abstract:
A crankshaft having a front end, a rear end, and a central axis extending from the front end to the rear end is provided. The crankshaft includes a front crankpin, a rear crankpin, and one or more central crankpins. The front crankpin is located in proximity to the front end and the rear crankpin is located in proximity to the rear end. Further, the one or more central crankpins are located substantially equidistant from the front crank pin and the rear crankpin. The crankshaft further includes pairs of counterweights disposed on each side of the front crankpin, the rear crankpin and the one or more central crankpin. The counterweights are disposed such that counterweights in each pair of counterweights are angularly offset with respect to each other
