Boeing's biggest ever passenger plane makes maiden flight
On hand for the event was Joe Sutter, the original 747 project engineer, who turns 90 years old on Monday. In a tribute, Mr. Sutters initials were stenciled in blue on the 747-8s front landing-gear door.
Boeing paid tribute to Joe Sutter, the chief engineer of Boeing's original 747 jumbo jet, by painting the doors of the nose landing gear with Sutter's initials. The Sunday flight was an early birthday gift to Sutter, who turns 90 today.
