Our door is always open for interviews for the Beckham family. John Beckham, the Hillcrest football coach and DGB's adoptive father, has declined comment for months. Look, I recognize our coverage has been intense. That said, we'll gladly give them the floor. A lot of people in the Ozarks care about

Tales of signing day, from a Big Ten brouhaha to the recruitment of the ...
While Green-Beckham's guardian and coach, John Beckham, thought Alabama's Nick Saban "is on a different level" from his peers, the prospect eliminated the Tide because of distance and the fact the program wasn't "kid friendly."According to Evans, another Arkansas booster stepped into deeper mess territory, leaving a message on the cellphone of John Beckham suggesting he was considering making a hefty financial donation to Green-Beckham's high school.
At 5-foot-9, 180 pounds and 4.7-second speed in the 40-yard dash, John Beckham was undersized and a step slow, but he still had opportunities to play small-college football out of state. He decided instead to attend a junior college in Louisville, Ky., where he also worked for his sisters husband, Before long, John Beckham and the girl went on dates and he enrolled at a local college to pursue being a youth pastor. He liked that Springfield was far less crowded than the Miami area, its rural setting and the locals friendliness. After the couple married, John Beckham briefly worked with his father-in-law in the insurance business before they entered the cattle trade together. They raised purebred cattle for 15 years, and at one point, they had 150 head on about 500 acres. While John Beckham was a cattleman, he did business with a man who was also athletic director of Springfield Public Schools. The man mentioned he was looking for an assistant coach for the seventh-grade football team of John Beckhams oldest adopted son, Rick. The Beckhams relationship with Dorial stems from another student John Beckham met while coaching football at Hillcrest Dorials oldest half-brother, Vincent Tate. Tate was 6-foot-3 and oozed athleticism, but he played only a couple of games before he was injured and stopped showing up at school.Shortly after Dorial moved in, John Beckham took him to a Missouri football camp for high school players. He was 6-foot-3 at the time and performed so well the Tigers coaches couldnt believe he was only in the seventh grade. But it was Dorials second career catch that got John Beckhams attention. He cleanly caught a short pass on a crossing route and when he turned up field, there were four West Plains defenders, all of whom had the angle on him.At the time, Dorial had primarily referred to his new father by his first name or Coach. But when the Beckhams officially adopted him and Darnell just over a year later, Dorial had a new name for John Beckham: Dad.When Darnell asked why, John Beckham told him he had been diagnosed with leukemia. Further tests revealed Darnell indeed had the bone marrow disorder and that he would have to undergo treatment for the next 2-1/2 years. He took a leave of absence from Hillcrest High and stayed with Darnell during the four months he was at St. Jude. There is a 93 percent success rate for curing Darnells leukemia and he is currently in remission, John Beckham said. But Darnell must undergo chemotherapy every Tuesday and often ends up vomiting all the way home and sometimes even the next day. He also must take dozens of pills daily, which makes him sick on occasions, and struggles with depression, John Beckham said.

Long relationship with Mizzou helped sway top recruit
It was a summer day, and her husband. John Beckham, took hisfoster son Dorial Green to a one-day Missouri football camp inSpringfield. The boy did not yet own the 6-foot-6, 220-pound framehe has now, but his size misrepresented his age. It always has. Louis and Springfield beforefinding themselves in the care of experienced foster parents Johnand Tracy Beckham. As a result of his Hillcrest football coachingjob, John Beckham had temporarily housed an older brother of Dorialand Darnell. When he found out the two younger brothers neededhelp, tcampuses, mingled with head coaches and NFL stars. Thenation's attention never strayed. The dates of his campus visitswere often leaked online. Paparazzi photos surfaced and spread overrecruiting websites. Speculation reigned supreme as John Beckhamstruggled to maintain as much privacy as possible."At the end of the day, Dorial just felt more comfortable withCoach (David) Yost, Coach (Gary) Pinkel and Coach (Andy) Hill,"John Beckham said. "Those are just people he's been around, reallysince middle school."schools. An example is Garrick McGee,the offensive coordinator at Arkansas for the past two seasons wholeft the Razorbacks in December to become the head football coachat University of Alabama at Birmingham. John Beckham acknowledgedMcGee's move might have made an impact on Green-Beckham'sdecision.Another important aspect was completely out of the desiringschools' control. Green-Beckham wanted to stay close to his family. This requirement hurt Alabama and Texas, a school John Beckham saidhe and his son both liked.
Just a week before Dorial's decision, John Beckham, who is the football coach at Hillcrest High, thought his son was headed to Arkansas. But that was before Dorial was overwhelmed by his official visit to Missouri, where signs such as Welcome Home were hung from highway overpasses, fans chanted MBut even after Dorial told his parents of his decision, there was still plenty of other drama, such as his college choice being reported a day later by the Tulsa World, an Arkansas booster leaving a voicemail on John Beckhams cell phone indicating he was considering making a financial donation to HDorials relationship with Missouri first began shortly after he moved in with the Beckhams in 2007. The shy seventh-grader was 6-foot-3 at the time and John Beckham took him to a Tigers football camp. Before the Arkansas-Alabama game, John Beckham thought Dorial would likely play at Oklahoma, a feeling the father had since the middle of Dorials sophomore year. The Beckhams liked the Sooners winning tradition, that their campus was less than a five-hour drive from Springfield and the stability oAt one point, Dorial and John Beckham were shooting pool with Jones in the Crimson Tides players lounge while highlights of Jones flashed in the background on a TV as his NFL future was discussed.Other schools that found out they had been cut actually hadnt been in the race for months. John Beckham decided he didnt want Dorial to play at one school after he saw a coach slam a headset at the end of the game instead of simply handing it to a waiting assistant. It marked the first time Dorials recruitment had been discussed in-depth in months. By the end of the meeting, John Beckham and Dorial agreed the list of finalists would be cut to three schools after Dorial returned from the US Army All-American game.Dorial also told his parents he was dropping Texas but wasnt able to follow through on doing so, Tracy Beckham said. If Dorial struggled on the field or in the classroom, John Beckham thought, Texas coach Mack Brown could be trusted the most.A negative in John Beckhams mind about Missouri, even before its move to the SEC, was that it hasnt been as successful recently as Dorials other finalists. John Beckham also knew his sons chances of playing for a national championship werent as high with the Tigers. The day Dorial returned from his visit to Arkansas, he and his family gathered for dinner at a Houlihan's restaurant to celebrate John Beckhams 50th birthday. The meal illustrated exactly what John and Tracy Beckham battled with Dorial.Being a coach myself, when I see a lot of turnover, that raises red flags, John Beckham said. When guys are moving on for higher jobs, I understand that, but when theres a lot of sideways movement, thats one of those things that causes trepidation. The day before Dorials announcement, John and Tracy Beckham sat in a barbecue restaurant in Springfield and discussed their fondness for Texas Brown. John Beckham had sent him a text message earlier in the day that in part said that Dorial was staying close to home.It was earlier that day that the Arkansas booster had left the voicemail on John Beckhams cell phone. Beckham played the message in which the booster said Hillcrest High was at the top of the list for high schools to which he was considering making a financial donation.

Consensus top recruit Green-Beckham commits to Missouri
John Beckham, Green-Beckham's adoptive father and high school coach, said one factor was former Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee leaving to take the head coaching position at Alabama-Birmingham in December. McGee was a key recruiter in the chase for Green-Beckham.
