Abstract:

Variable flowrate regulators of this invention r comprises a regulator body having a fluid transport chamber disposed therethrough. Fluid inlet and outlet ports are in fluid flow communication with the chamber, and a valve seat is positioned at one end of the chamber. A diaphragm housing is attached to the body and has a diaphragm chamber in fluid flow communication with the fluid transport chamber. A diaphragm is disposed within the diaphragm chamber. A one-piece poppet assembly is attached to the diaphragm and is disposed within the body. The poppet assembly comprises a head that has a diameter sized greater than that of the valve seat for providing a leak-tight seal thereagainst when placed in a closed position. The poppet assembly also comprises a plurality of orifices positioned downstream from the head for passing fluid into the fluid transport chamber when the head is unseated from the valve seat. The plurality of orifices is positioned concentrically within the fluid transport chamber.

Abstract:

Precision dispense pumps comprise a housing that has an internal chamber disposed therein. A pressurizing assembly disposed within the chamber and includes a cylindrical pressurizing member having a head, a thin-walled skirt extending axially away from the head, and a flange is positioned circumferentially around the skirt. The pressurizing assembly includes a support coupled to backside of the pressurizing member. The support has a cylindrical outside surface sized support the skirt when it is translated from a chamber surface during pressurizing assembly axial movement. A shaft projects through an opening in the support and into a partial opening in the pressurizing member. A fluid transport body is attached to the housing and includes a fluid chamber having a fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port. An actuator is disposed within an actuator housing attached to the housing and is coupled to the shaft to cause axial movement of the pressurizing assembly within the housing chamber. The pump can includes a vacuum assist element connected to the housing to provide a desired pressure differential within the pump to bias the skirt against supportive chamber or support surfaces during pressurizing assembly movement. Check valves are in fluid flow communication with the fluid inlet and fluid outlet ports to ensuring checked one-way passage of fluid into and out of the fluid chamber during respective intake and output strokes of the pressurizing assembly.

Abstract:

A non-planar flexible graphite sealing ring is used to control leakage in a fluid handling device where a shaft extends through the wall of the device. The flexible graphite sealing ring comprises a chevron-shaped cross section having approximately complementary inner and outer end faces that are made by laminating sheets of flexible graphite foil in layers transverse to the ring's axis. A plurality of flexible graphite rings are inserted over the shaft and into the stuffing box, occupying the space between the shaft and the stuffing box. The flexible graphite sealing rings are oriented so that each ring's inner end face adjoins the outer end face of another ring. Upon application of a compressive force the interaction between the dissimilar end faces causes an enhanced interference fit between the shaft and the stuffing box forming a seal. An asymmetrical chevron cross section of a sealing ring, and W- and V-shaped end rings are used in additional embodiments.

Abstract:

There is disclosed a fishing lure having a fish attractant body which is formed of a water soluble polymer having a slow dissolution rate. The polymer contains a fish scent attractant. The fish scent attractant can be encapsulated within the polymer, e. g. , fish or blood meal can be included in the polymer so that it will be slowly dispensed into the water as the polymer dissolves. The preferred polymer is polyvinyl alcohol having a preselected degree of hydrolysis of its ester groups to achieve the desired water solubility rate, and optionally plasticized with glycerol. The attractant can be a sheet which has a plurality of parallel and coextensive slits to provide parallel strips that depend from an unslit portion thereby permitting the sheet material to be wrapped about a lure body and secured in place so that the parallel strips extend rearwardly from the body, permitting them to undulate in the water as the lure is pulled through the water simulating the swimming movements of a small fish. Other embodiments include solid form lures shaped from polyvinyl alcohol which is gelled with a soluble borate.
