Abstract:

An RJ jack includes a first housing having bottom, side, rear, front and top walls defining an interior chamber and an opening through the front wall through which a plug may be received into the interior chamber. A plurality of contact fingers extend from beneath the bottom wall to and over the front wall and into the interior chamber. The spacing between the contact fingers in the interior chamber is equal to the spacing of corresponding contacts in the plug with the spacing of the contact fingers extending beneath the bottom wall being substantially greater. A second housing is removably secured to the rear wall of the first housing, the second housing containing a plurality of magnetic elements. At least two guides for receiving light emitting devices are formed on the rear wall of the second housing. The top wall extends over the first and second housings and has a stopper for limiting movement of the plug within the chamber and a locking mechanism for releasably securing the plug within the chamber, and is transparent for transmitting light from the light emitting devices.

Abstract:

A system and method for managing e-mail traffic originating from a specific IP address. An outbound e-mail message is routed to an e-mail governor where the IP address of the computer from which outbound e-mail message originated is determined. A record associated with the originating IP address is created in a datatstore. Metrics useful to determine an e-mail message rate and an e-mail byte rate are stored in the e-mail record. An e-mail message rate is determined and compared with an e-mail message rate threshold. If the e-mail message rate threshold is exceeded, the originating IP address is sending spam e-mail (spam) and redial action is taken. An e-mail byte rate is also determined and compared with an e-mail byte rate threshold. If the e-mail byte rate threshold is exceeded, the originating IP address is using excess network resources to send e-mail and redial action is taken.

Abstract:

Methods and systems for thwarting denial of service attacks originating in a DOCSIS-compliant cable network (DCN) are described. A DCN comprises one or more sub-networks each comprising an access network, one or more cable modem termination systems (CMTSs) and one or more cable modems (CMs). The DCN also accesses an edge server and a local DNS cache server. The DCN interfaces with the Internet and accesses a remote DNS server according to well-known protocols. The CMTS is adapted to compare the source IP address included in IP packet headers to the IP address of the customer premises equipment (CPE) from which the IP packet originates as assigned by the DNS. Data packets that have spoofed addresses are either deleted or quarantined. Packets reaching the edge server are evaluated by an attack detection system. A packet determined to be part of a denial of service attack is inspected and the source IP address and the destination IP address extracted.

Abstract:

An apparatus and a method for improving packet transmission and reducing latency in VoIP over WLAN using switched beam antennas having multiple directional antenna beams are disclosed. In an access point having a switched beam antenna, or other smart antenna system, the present invention extends the coverage area of an access point for authentication and association of a new WTRU, extends the access points coverage area during in session transmissions with a WTRU, and adjusts data rates. The method also controls Contention Period (CP)/Contention Free Period (CFP) timing amongst beams emanating from an access point having a switched beam antenna, or other smart antenna system. Fast diversity switching, frame level switching, lowered data rates, and scanning multiple directional antenna beams for the optimum transmission beam are disclosed to improve beam selection and packet transmission.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for dynamically configuring a memory for hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) processes in a receiving node to permit a more flexible H-ARQ memory configuration and improve the performance of H-ARQ processes. An H-ARQ memory in the receiving node is reserved for a plurality of H-ARQ processes. A transmitting node dynamically configures the H-ARQ memory in the receiving node for each H-ARQ transmission so that the memory requirement for a plurality of H-ARQ processes exceeds the H-ARQ memory capacity. If there is insufficient H-ARQ memory available to support H-ARQ transmissions, only a subset of the plurality of H-ARQ processes may be activated at a time. When there is insufficient H-ARQ memory for processing H-ARQ transmissions, a negative acknowledgement (NACK), an acknowledgement (ACK), nothing, and/or information indicating the reason for a failed transmission may be transmitted to a transmitting node.

Abstract:

Systems and methods for Wi-Fi roaming. A gateway supports both a local access point (AP) and a virtual AP. The local AP is accessible only to an “owner” of the gateway. The virtual AP (VAP) is accessible to devices associated with the owner of the gateway and to roaming Wi-Fi devices. A datastore conveys information about the roaming Wi-Fi devices to the VAP to permit them to access the VAP without the need for manual configuration of the VAP. A roaming Wi-Fi device may communicate with a gateway via a tunnel to maintain session connectivity during roaming. A session may be initiated on one network, such as a Wi-Fi network or a cellular network, handed off to another network, such as a cellular network or a Wi-Fi network, and then returned to network on which the session was initiated.

Abstract:

Systems and methods for cloning a Wi-Fi access point. A determination is made by a network monitoring device to transition communications between a Wi-Fi device and a first access point (AP) to a second AP. The SSID and the security configuration information, and, optionally, network address translation (NAT) information of the first access point are acquired and provided to a second AP. The second AP instantiates the SSID and the security configuration information and, optionally, the NAT information. The networking monitoring device directs the first AP to cease using the SSID and the security configuration information and, optionally, the NAT information in response to receipt of confirmation that the second AP has instantiated the SSID and the security configuration information and, optionally, the NAT information of the first AP.
