Abstract:

A Co-Pt based magnetic alloy which has been doped with a relatively high amount of nitrogen, e. g. , or above 1 at. % is obtained having high coercivity, for example in the range of 1400 Oe or above, and an increased signal-to-noise ratio as compared to the same Co-Pt based alloy which has not been doped with nitrogen. The alloy is vacuum deposited, for example, by sputtering, and the nitrogen may be introduced from the sputtering gas or from the sputtering target. Other low-solubility elements providing the grain uniformity and isolation include: B, P, S, C, Si, As, Se and Te.

Abstract:

A repeater, useable for connecting switches in a data communication network, is provided in a distributed and/or modular fashion. The repeater includes a plurality of separate and distinct components or modules connected to or at least partially housed in, the various switches which the repeater modules couple. The distributed and/or modular repeater facilitates accommodating various switching or repeater needs as a network grows or contracts. A light pipe, preferably integral with a module case, conveys indicator lights to a position visible when viewing a switch front panel. A heat spreader unit receives and/or conveys heat and/or protects against undue EMI. A collision-handling state machine transmits modified collision fragments so as to avoid reduction in interpacket gaps, e. g. by downstream repeater modules.

Abstract:

One embodiment comprises a method for image processing. The method includes identifying an uncovered region in an image, determining at least one trivalent point, and extrapolating from the trivalent point to extend an edge of at least one of the image segments into the uncovered region. Another embodiment comprises an apparatus for image processing. The apparatus includes a predictor for predicting higher-frequency boundary information in newly uncovered regions. Another embodiment comprises a system for efficiently communicating video information. The system includes an encoder that encodes a video frame into an encoded frame, and a decoder that receives and decodes the encoded frame, wherein the encoder and decoder are both configured to identify uncovered regions and to extend edges from neighboring image segments into the uncovered region.

Abstract:

A CMTS redundancy technique requires at least two CMTS interfaces (e. g. , line cards) on one or more CMTS chassis at the head end of a cable network. One of the CMTSs serves as a backup or “protecting” CMTS. When another CMTS (a “working” CMTS) becomes unavailable to service its group of cable modems, the protecting CMTS takes over service to those cable modems. The SWITCHOVER takes place transparently (or nearly transparently) to the cable modems. The protecting CMTS provides service on the same downstream channel as used by the working CMTS. The cable modems need not modify any settings pursuant to their cable modem communication protocol (e. g. , DOCSIS ranging). This transparency to the cable modems is realized by keeping the working and protecting CMTSs in synchronization regarding service parameters for the cable modems. In other words, the protecting CMTS maintains a list of current parameters for allowing service to the cable modems.
