Abstract:

An acidic, stable, homogeneous, mobile liquid, biodegradable surfactant composition is provided which consists essentially of 1. at least one liquid hydrophilic nonionic surfactant, 2. at least one substantially salt free liquid biodegradable alkyl benzene sulfonic acid surfactant corresponding to the structural formula: ##SPC1## Wherein n is an integer having a numerical value of from 3 to 14, 3. about 0. 0001-1% by weight of hydrogen peroxide, and 4. about 0-95% by weight of water. The surfactant composition contains a weight ratio of surfactant (1) to surfactant (2) from 1:5 to 5:1, and surfactant (1) has hydrophilic properties whereby the surfactant composition is stable and remains homogeneous in the absence of an added hydrotrope. The hydrogen peroxide is present in an amount to control obnoxious odors and the use of an expensive perfume to mask odors is not necessary. Acidic stock surfactant solutions which are compatible with alkaline aqueous washing media may be prepared by diluting the surfactant composition with water.

Natural and synthetic textile materials and blends thereof are disclosed containing at least one water-soluble, neutral alkanolamine, ammonium or mixed alkanolamine and ammonium salt of a phosphoric acid wherein said acid is selected from the group consisting of orthophosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acid. Polyester-cotton fabrics are rendered antistatic by treatment with these ionic bonded salts in the proportion of about 0. 5 to about 10 percent by weight based on the weight of the textile fabric.

Evenly pre-faded blue jeans are obtained by subjecting the blue jeans to a washing cycle comprising (a) an initial wash with detergent and emulsifier, (b) a suitable intermediate rinsing operation, (c) a bleaching operation in which the garments are subjected to the simultaneous action of bleach and a fabric softener of the quaternary ammonium type, alone or with the addition of a suitable amount of detergent, (d) a further rinsing operation, and (e) an optional final treatment with fabric softener and laundry sour.

Abstract:

Stained textile fabrics, especially cotton-polyester, rayon-polyester blends stained in use with blood stains, can be reclaimed and returned to use by the process of washing and bleaching said fabrics in the presence of a non-ionic or anionic surface-active agent, together with an oxygen-releasing bleaching agent and a chlorine-releasing bleaching agent, said bleaching agents used either successively or simultaneously. The laundering process involves the use of aqueous solutions of bleaching agents at elevated temperatures and at high pH. The process of the invention provides a synergistic improvement in the removal of stains as compared with the use of either an oxygen-releasing bleaching agent or a chlorine-releasing bleaching agent. The process can include a hot aqueous acid sour treatment to remove rust stains and an aqueous sour to neutralize alkalies in the bleached fabric. The treatment can be completed in a period of time of about 30 to about 90 minutes.
