Abstract:

A surgical control system is provided including a glove having a plurality of sensory elements disposed therein, the plurality of sensory elements configured to provide sensory signals and at least one surgical instrument configured to be responsive to the sensory signals when the glove is within a functional range of the at least one surgical instrument. The plurality of sensory elements are magnetic elements or conductive elements. At least one surgical instrument includes a plurality of sensors positioned therein for sensing the magnetic elements or the conductive elements of the glove. Movement of the glove having the plurality of magnetic or conductive elements disposed therein, relative to the at least one surgical instrument, causes the plurality of sensors positioned within the at least one surgical instrument to activate at least one operation of the at least one surgical instrument.

Abstract:

A buoy deployment system for an aircraft is disclosed which includes a multi-store gravity launching system which allows for discharge of different lengthsn and types of buoys. The gravity launch system includes a plurality of launch tubes, each including a spring biased door at the discharge end thereof, with the doors being either electrically actuated from the pilot cockpit via electrical controls, or, in the event of an electrical malfunction, being manually operable by an operator. Each buoy loaded therein is accessible for reconfiguration in flight, with each tube similarly being reloadable in flight. Also disclosed is a rotatable storage carousel including a plurality of semi-cylindrical tube section/latch assemblies, sized to restrain a plurality of buoys, which form storage stations on the carousel. The storage carousel maximizes the number and type of buoys which may be carried in a given space, being manually rotatable to allows access for setting the operational functions of the buoys contained therein. Utilizing the gravity launcher and storage carousel provides maximum mission flexibility while minimizing aircraft space requirements.

Abstract:

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has a toroidal fuselage and a rotor assembly having a pair of counter-rotating rotors secured in fixed coaxial combination with the toroidal fuselage to provide a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capability for the UAV. One embodiment of the VTOL UAV is especially configured for ground surveillance missions by the inclusion of an externally mounted, remotely controllable stowable sensor subsystem that provides an azimuthal scanning capability and a predetermined elevation/depression scanning capability to accomplish the ground surveillance mission and a foldable landing gear subsystem to facilitate landing of the VTOL UAV at unprepared ground surveillance sites.
