A portable remote activation device having an exceptionally long battery life. The activation device is composed of a receiver unit and a transmitter unit which are normally connected in tandem. The receiver unit includes a receiver, a battery source for powering the receiver, and a switch for activating the receiver by the battery. The receiver unit also includes a transmitter unit housing which is shaped to accommodate the transmitter unit and, with the transmitter unit so-accommodated, actuate the switch to disconnect battery power from the receiver. Only when the transmitter unit is removed from the receiver unit is the switch closed to connect the battery to the receiver, enabling the receiver to receive signals from the transmitter unit.
Attachment For Identification Card Providing Medical Information
An attachment for an identification card for providing information, such as medical data. The medical data is entered on one portion, and an attention strip is provided adjacent to that portion. When the attachment is mounted on an identification card, a fold between that portion and the attention strip is located at one edge of the card, with the medical data being freely available and accessible from the back of the identification card, while the attention strip is on the front to alert the user that information is available on the rear of the card.

Abstract:
An improved system and method for providing air/ground communications compatible with ground based telephone systems. The airborne equipment incorporates means for comparing signals received from various ground stations located along the flight path so as to allow the selection of the "best" signal to provide good telephone communications service for a reasonable length telephone conversation.

US Classification:

Abstract:
For use in conjunction with vehicular, hand-held, pay telephone, a telephone holder and latching mechanism for securing the telephone in the holder and, in response to actuation by a telephone user, releasing the telephone from the holder. The holder includes an elongated holder channel of stepwise construction. The holder channel is enclosed at one end by a butt plate that provides access holes for the telephone line cord and a hook switch. The holder channel is enclosed at an opposite end by a credit-card-actuated latching mechanism. The latching mechanism includes a matching plate that provides a slot aligned with a slot in the holder face plate. A credit card, once inserted into the slots, is guided by a holder box so that the credit card is caused to abut a latch-release plate that is pivotably mounted to the holder channel. Rotation of the latch-release plate about the pivot points withdraws a latch-retainer bracket from a slot in the telephone and permits an ejector mechanism to urge the telephone out of the holder.
Holder And Credit-Card Unlatching Mechanism For A Hand-Held Telephone
John D. Goeken - Plainfield IL Jerome L. Oldani - Aurora IL
International Classification:
H01M 1100
US Classification:
379144
Abstract:
In conjunction with a hand-held, credit-card telephone for use aboard, for example, commerical aircraft, a telephone holder and credit-card unlatching mechanism ("CCUM"). The holder includes a holder channel of generally longitudinal, stepwise construction. The holder also includes a face plate with a vertical slot for the insertion of a credit card. A butt plate, secured to one end of the holder channel, and the CCUM, which is secured to the other end of the holder channel, together form, with the holder channel, a telephone-receiving cavity in which the telephone is secured when not in use. The CCUM itself includes a latch plate attached to the holder channel and exhibits a longitudinal slot in alignment with the vertical slot in the face plate. A latching mechanism is secured to the holder channel and operates to selectively, in response to the insertion of a credit card, latch or unlatch the telephone from the telephone-receiving cavity. A credit-card guide is attached to the latch plate and disposed between the latch plate and a latch-release plate of the latching mechanism for guiding the travel of a credit card that has been inserted into the slot.
Continuous Reception By A Mobile Receiver Unit Of Program Channels Transmitted By A Series Of Transmitters
A system and process for continuous reception of information by a mobile receiver unit passing among a plurality of spaced transmitters with each transmitter configured to individually transmit signals to the mobile receiver unit. The mobile receiver unit has a pair of scanning receivers controlled by a switching control module. The module causes one of the scanning receivers to lock onto signals transmitted from one of the transmitters while causing the second scanning receiver to scan signals transmitted by the transmitters in the reception range of the scanning receiver. Once the strength of the signal locked onto by the first scanning receiver falls below a predetermined minimum signal strength, the second scanning receiver locks onto the best suited received signal and the first scanning receiver is caused to commence scanning, the roles of the scanning receivers thus being reversed. The process continues, with the roles of the scanning receivers constantly being reversed, as the mobile receiver unit traverses the signals broadcast by the plurality of spaced transmitters.
