Abstract:
The present invention relates to a control system for selectively supplying electrical power in a remote environment. The system comprises a plurality of electrical circuits, each designed to operate over a unique frequency passband. Power transmitted within the frequency passband of a circuit is filtered through that circuit to power a corresponding remote device. One or more remote devices can be simultaneously powered by transmitting power within the frequency passbands of the corresponding circuits. It is advantageous to design relatively narrow passbands to accommodate a relatively large number of circuits and corresponding devices for remote operation and a triac, rectifier or other suitable turn-on gate can be incorporated into each circuit to effectively control the width of the frequency passband of each circuit. Alternatively, an operational amplifier could be used.

Abstract:
A method of servicing a well bore comprises deploying into the well bore a zonal isolation device operable to self-set at a sensed location, and self-setting the zonal isolation device to hold at the sensed location without receiving command communications from the surface, wherein the zonal isolation device is deployed along at least a partial length of the well bore via an external force. Another method of servicing comprises deploying into the well bore a tool operable to self-activate at one or more locations, and self-navigating the tool to determine the one or more locations without receiving communications from the surface, wherein the tool is moved along at least a partial length of the well bore via an external force.

Abstract:
A downhole tool for use in a well bore comprises an onboard navigation system for determining the location of the tool within the well bore, wherein the tool is moved along at least a partial length of the well bore via an external force. A method of locating a downhole tool in a well bore comprises deploying the tool along at least a partial length of the well bore via an external force, and self-determining the location of the tool without receiving communications from the surface. In an embodiment, the tool is a well bore zonal isolation device.

Abstract:
Surface controlled subsurface control valves for use in wells and methods of controlling the same. In one embodiment, a valve includes a valve body, a bore closure assembly, a mechanical linkage, a drive assembly, and a control assembly. The valve body defines a bore for fluid to flow through when the bore closure assembly is in an open position. When the bore closure assembly is in its closed position, the bore closure assembly prevents fluid from flowing through the bore. The mechanical linkage is operatively connected to the bore closure assembly and to the drive assembly. The primary control assembly determines a force to apply to the mechanical linkage based on a present operating condition of the valve and causes the drive assembly to apply the determined force to the mechanical linkage. As a result, the mechanical linkage drives the bore closure assembly.

Abstract:
A method of operating a valve can include installing an electrical actuator in a flow passage extending longitudinally through the valve, and operating a closure assembly in response to electrical power being supplied to the electrical actuator. An outer safety valve can include a closure assembly which selectively permits and prevents flow through a longitudinal flow passage, and at least one electrical connector which electrically connects to an insert safety valve positioned in the flow passage. A method of operating an outer safety valve in a subterranean well can include installing an insert safety valve in the safety valve, and operating the insert safety valve with electrical current flowing from the safety valve to the insert safety valve.

Abstract:
A method of operating an insert safety valve in a subterranean well can include installing the insert safety valve in a flow passage which extends longitudinally through an outer safety valve, making electrical contact between the insert safety valve and an electrical connector, and operating the insert safety valve, thereby selectively permitting and preventing flow through the flow passage. An insert safety valve can include a closure assembly which selectively permits and prevents flow through a longitudinal flow passage, and at least one electrical connector which electrically connects to another electrical connector external to the insert safety valve.

Abstract:
An autonomous downhole tool for use in a well bore is moved along at least a partial length of the well bore via an external force, and the tool is self-operable to perform one or more functions at one or more locations within the well bore.. A method for operating a downhole tool within a well bore comprises deploying the tool along at least a partial length of the well bore via an external force, and self-activating one or more functions of the tool, wherein the tool does not receive command communications from the surface.
