Abstract:

A point-of-sale check authorization method inputs transaction and financial institution information from a check to be authorized. This information is communicated to a merchant processor operable to make a check authorization determination. The merchant processor discriminating whether or not the financial institution upon which the check was written is a participating financial institution. If not, the check authorization determination is based upon experiential databases accessible by the merchant processor. If it is discriminated that the financial institution information is a participating financial institution, the merchant processor transmits an information request to the financial institution upon which the check was written, and the financial institution, if sufficient funds are available and other predetermined criteria are met, debits the account in the amount of the transaction.

Abstract:

For use with a video camera, a television set and a communications network capable of carrying voice and video data, a multimedia telephone that includes a network interface for coupling the multimedia telephone to the communications network. The multimedia telephone further includes a first module, coupled to the network interface and including a user interface for communicating audio information with a user and first module wireless communication circuitry. The multimedia telephone still further includes a second module separable from the first module, coupled to the network interface and including a video input, connectible to the video camera, for receiving video information from the video camera, a video output, connectible to the television set, for transmitting other video information to the television set, and second module wireless communication circuitry coupled to the camera input and the television output and wirelessly couplable to the first module wireless communication circuitry. The first and second module wireless communication circuitry cooperate to establish a wireless communication link between the first and second modules. The multimedia telephone is embodied in the first and second modules to allow the first module to be separate from the second module and proximate the user.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for communicating voice messages. An electronic voice mail (EVM) server receives a recipient and target device selection over a packet-switched network A sender records a voice message for delivery to the intended recipient. The voice message is stored as an audio file at the EVM server. The recipient is notified that they have received a voice message. The audio file is delivered to the target device over the packet-switched network.

Abstract:

A method of measuring morphological characteristics of a laser annealed film having a crystalline structure, which is defined by at least one row of side-to-side positioned grains each having a length (Lg), which is uniform for the grains, and width (Wg), wherein a length of the row (Lr) corresponds to a cumulative width Wg of the grains and creates a diffraction of various orders of diffraction, the method includes generating a monochromatic light; training the monochromatic light onto a surface of the laser annealed film at an angle varying in a range between 0 (incident) and grazing angles; and measuring variations of properties of the monochromatic light diffracted from the surface, thereby measuring the morphological characteristics of the laser annealed film along the length (Lr) of the one row.
