Abstract:

An animation system provides synchronization services to synchronize actions of two more interactive user interface characters that are displayed simultaneously. The animation services allow applications to make animation requests to control the actions of characters on the display. These actions include playing one of the characters animation sequences and generating speech output with lip-synched animation of the characters mouth. Accessible via script commands or an Application Programming Interface, the synchronization services allow an application to control interaction between two or more characters on the display. Applications can synchronize actions by invoking straightforward commands such as Wait, Interrupt, or Stop. In response to these commands, the animation server synchronizes scheduled actions by halting playback of a character until a specified action of another character completes or halting a specified action of one character after scheduled actions for another character are completed.

Abstract:

The subject invention can track and apply user edits to a source document as a sequence of changes. The changes can be applied in a document or spatial order irrespective of temporal factors. The invention can maintain intervals that represent user operations (e. g. , insertions, deletions, zero-net-length changes). As well, the invention can infer a location in the original document that corresponds to a particular operation. In accordance therewith, the invention can arrange temporally sequenced user document modifications into an order consistent with the layout of the document file encoding. This functionality of mapping re-sequenced changes into the original document data representation is one novel feature of the invention. The invention can enable portions of the source document loaded into memory on an as-needed basis whereby changes relevant to the instant portion can be made.

Abstract:

The present invention provides prognostic methods for conditions such as cancer, for example, breast cancer, comprising classifying an individual by a plurality of phenotypic, genotypic or clinical characteristics of the condition into a plurality of patient subsets, and analyzing the pattern of expression of prognosis-informative genes identified for that subset in a sample from the individual. The present invention also provides methods for constructing such patient subsets and of identifying prognosis-informative genesets for such subsets. Abstract:

Methods for determining whether a molecule affects a disorder are provided. A cell from an organism is contacted with the molecule, or the molecule is expressed within the cell. A determination is made as to whether the RNA or protein expression in the cell of at least one open reading frame is changed relative to the expression of the reading frame in the absence of the molecule. Each such open reading frame is regulated by a promoter native to SEQ ID NOS: 5-9, 11-12, 14, 16, 18, 20-21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31, 33 or homologs of the foregoing. A determination is made as to whether the molecule affects the disorder when the RNA or protein expression of the at least one reading frame is changed. Alternatively, a determination is made that the molecule does not affect the disorder when the RNA or protein expression of the at least one reading frame is unchanged.

Abstract:

Methods, computer program products, and systems are provided for associating a cellular constituent with a trait T exhibited by a species. A cellular constituent i that has at least one abundance quantitative trait locus (eQTL) coincident with a respective clinical quantitative trait locus (cQTL) for the trait of interest T is identified. For each eQTL, a determination is made as to whether (i) the genetic variation of the eQTL and (ii) the variation of the trait of interest T across the plurality of organisms are correlated conditional on an abundance pattern of the cellular constituent i across the plurality of organisms. When the genetic variation of (i) one of the eQTL and (ii) the variation of the trait of interest T across the plurality of organisms are uncorrelated conditional on the abundance pattern of the cellular constituent i, the cellular constituent i is considered causal for, and is therefore associated with, the trait of interest T.

A method for confirming the association of a query QTL or a query gene in the genome of a second species with a clinical trait T exhibited by the second species. A first QTL or a first gene in a first species that is linked to a trait T′ is found. The trait T′ is indicative of trait T. Abstract:

The animation of a speaking character is synchronized with recorded speech by creating and playing a linguistically enhanced sound file. A sound editing tool employs a speech recognition engine to create the linguistically enhanced sound file from recorded speech and a text of the speech. The speech recognition engine provides timing information related to word breaks and phonemes that is used by the sound editing tool to annotate the speech sound data when creating the linguistically enhanced sound file. When the linguistically enhanced sound file is played to produce sound output, the timing information is retrieved to control the animated character's mouth movement and word pacing in the character's word balloon. The sound editing tool additionally provides editing functions for manipulating the timing information. A text to speech engine can use the same programming interface as the linguistically enhanced sound file player to send notifications to the animation, providing prototyping without recorded speech.
