Abstract:

A surgical access assembly configured and dimensioned for positioning within an intercostal space defined between a patient's adjacent ribs to facilitate passage of a surgical instrument into an internal work site. The surgical access assembly includes a body portion that may be either partially or wholly formed from a resilient material such that the surgical access assembly is resiliently deformable to facilitate conformity with the intercostal space in order to minimize the application of force to the patient's tissue upon insertion and removal of the access assembly and manipulation of the surgical instrument.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to an article accumulation conveyor in which the drive for moving the articles is automatically discontinued for a selected section of the conveyor when an article is stopped for any reason on another certain section of the conveyor and is started again automatically when the article moves for any reason. The power for activating and deactivating the drive for moving the articles is furnished substantially in its entirety by the conveyor drive so that all need for extraneous power sporces or the force exerted by a moving article is entirely eliminated.

Abstract:

A bulk material handling conveyor comprising an overhead conveyor which supports containers in the form of magazines for the material. Each magazine has a filling opening surrounded by a gasket, and a movable closure for the filling opening which in closed position covers the filling opening and coacts with the gasket to tightly seal the magazine against leakage from within and without. A filling spout is located adjacent the path of travel of the magazines and comprises a fixed section and a movable section. The fixed section is suitably supported and the movable section has means for moving it from a position where it is out of the way of the movable closure to a position where it tightly contacts said gasket and covers said filling opening to completely prevent any escape of material and dust during the filling operation. A vent is associated with the filling spout to allow air to escape from the magazine during filling.

Abstract:

This invention comprises a conveyor chain linkage which is especially well adapted for tubular type bulk handling conveyors wherein it is very important that the linkage be very strong but take up as little space as possible in order not to diminish the volumetric capacity of the conveyor and also be very accurate in pitch dimensions so as to operate properly on the sprocket which drives the chain. Structurally the preferred form of the invention comprises a rod, each end of which has a slightly increased diameter area which is threaded and a ball having a central opening threaded to fit onto a threaded area and a ball so threaded on each end of the rod.

Abstract:

This invention comprises a machine such as a conveyor having a chain and a powered sprocket for driving the chain. The sprocket comprises a circular main plate, individual chain-contacting teeth around the periphery thereof and each tooth being pivotally connected to the main plate for rotation relative thereto and each tooth having a cam contacting surface. An individual cam-stop is also pivotally mounted on the main plate for rotation relative thereto and adjacent to each tooth and each cam-stop has two cam areas capable of selectively contacting the cam contacting surface on its adjacent tooth, and means for positioning each of said cam-stops so that a cam area thereon will rotate its adjacent tooth towards contact with the chain as the chain enters the sprocket, and so that the other cam area will enable said tooth to rotate so as to release contact with said tooth with said chain at the desired release point between the chain and sprocket. Whereby the contact between the teeth and chain and the release of the sprocket by the chain are both accomplished without any sliding friction between the teeth and chain.

Abstract:

A hand held all-visibility (no stethoscope required) blood pressure measuring instrument comprising a manifold, a combination blood pressure and systolic-diastolic points indicating direct reading gauge physically and funtionally connected to the manifold, a squeeze bulb physically and functionally connected to the manifold and forming the hand grip for holding the instrument and having a stiffening member connected to the manifold and extending through the interior of the bulb to prevent bending distortion of the bulb and resultant waver of the gauge, and a short stroke, quick action press type air release valve physically and functionally connected to the manifold in a position where it can be completely operated solely by very short strokes of the thumb of the holding hand (either right or left) while the hand is in a completely normal position and the gauge is in a fully readable position while being held steady and still.
