Abstract:

An intervertebral spacer inserter includes a sleeve having a longitudinal axis, a hollow sleeve bore extending through the sleeve along the longitudinal axis, a sleeve tip end and an opening of a passage disposed in the sleeve tip end. The passage extends into the sleeve to the sleeve shaft along a passage axis that intersects the longitudinal axis at an angle less than about 90. A sliding tip with an elongated slot is in contact with the sleeve tip end and is moveable with respect to the sleeve tip end between a first position with the opening accessible through the elongated slot and disposed adjacent a first end of the elongated slot and a second position with the opening accessible through the elongated slot and disposed adjacent a second end of the elongated slot opposite the first end.

Abstract:

An implant is insertable in the joint space to separate bones of the joint. The implant has two endplates each configured to engage a separate articulating bone of the joint, and a threaded member positioned between the two endplates and configured to increase the space between the two endplates when the threaded member is rotated. A rotatable gear is engaged with the threaded member, and is engageable with a rotating gear of a connected implantation tool, so that rotation of the gear on the tool causes rotation of the threaded member and expansion of the implant to separate the bones. Connector portions on the tool and the implant may be rotated together to securely engage the implant and the tool so that the gears of the tool and the implant can be rotated using an actuator outside of the body, when the implant is inside the body.

An added layer attached to a textile sheet using polymeric adhesive placed over a textile sheet or between the textile sheet and an added layer is removed by applying heat or a solvent and at least one of an abrasive action, squeezing, or shaving action to remove the adhesive layer or both the added layer and the adhesive sublayer and to prepare the textile sheet for recycling into a new textile structure, preferably into a textile sheet performing the same function as the original textile sheet.

The present invention provides an expandable fusion device capable of being inserted between adjacent vertebrae to facilitate the fusion process. The expandable fusion device may include first and second endplates, a translation member configured to expand an anterior side and/or posterior side of the device, a plurality of joists configured to connect the first and second endplates to the translation member, and first and second actuation members disposed internally to the device such that openings on a back side of the device can be used to expand or compress the anterior side, the posterior side, or both and such openings may also be used to introduce graft material into the device.

Abstract:

A joint spacer therapeutically maintains separation of bones of a joint. A carriage is slideably retained within the frame and has at least one ramped surface. An actuator screw is threadably engaged with the frame, and rotatably connected to the carriage, to cause the carriage to slideably move within the frame when the actuator screw is rotated. First and second endplates engage the bones of the joint, and each has at least one ramped surface that is mateable with the ramped surface of the carriage, whereby when the carriage is slideably moved by rotation of the actuator screw, the endplates ramped surface slides against the carriage ramped surface to cause the endplates to move along an axis transverse to the longitudinal axis of the frame, to increase the height of the spacer. Piercing elements are connected to the carriage to pierce bone of the joint when the carriage is moved.

Abstract:

The present invention provides an expandable fusion device capable of being inserted between adjacent vertebrae to facilitate the fusion process. A method of installing an expandable fusion device may comprise introducing the expandable fusion device into an intervertebral space, wherein the expandable fusion device comprises a proximal end, a distal end, an anterior side connecting the proximal end and the distal end, and a posterior side connecting the proximal end and the distal end, wherein the expandable fusion device has an anterior height on the anterior side and a posterior height on the posterior side. The method may further comprise adjusting the anterior height of the expandable fusion device independently from adjustment of the posterior height. The method may further comprise adjusting the posterior height of the expandable fusion device.
