Abstract:

Systems and methods for providing a development and deployment platform for Software as a Service (SaaS) providers are disclosed. The platform may provide an application programming interface (API) through which customers may configure virtualized grids of language-level virtual machines (VMs), networks, and storage resources. A grid may be horizontally scalable and programmatically configurable by a customer and/or customer code. The platform may allow dynamic scaling of resources (up and down) to match changing demands, by allowing customers and/or customer code to programmatically alter their own system level structure at runtime, through the API. The grid may be accessed by both on-grid and off-grid processes, through internal and external connectivity resources provided by the platform. In accordance with methods and systems consistent with the present invention, a lease manager is provided for managing leases between clients and other network services. To use the lease manager, a client enters into a management lease with the lease manager, specifying an amount of time during which the lease manager can manage preexisting leases between the client and network services on behalf of the client. This management includes renewing the preexisting leases with the other network services. Further, the lease manager notifies the client when a lease between the lease manager and the client is near expiration. The lease manager also notifies the client of failed attempts to renew the preexisting leases, as well as the management lease, either with a network service or with the lease manager.

Abstract:

A low latency metadata subsystem for file systems in low latency (LL) mode in a distributed file storage service (DFSS). An LL server (LLS) may receive metadata requests from an access node of the DFSS. For read operations, the LLS may check a local cache of metadata and, for cache hits, retrieve the metadata from the cache. For cache misses, the metadata may be fetched from the storage subsystem of the DFSS and cached. For write operations, the LLS may write entries into a journal for the file system and notify the access node after the journal entries are committed to the journal; the journal entries are asynchronously committed in the storage subsystem. The access node may communicate with the storage subsystem to perform data reads and writes for the LL file system.
