Abstract:
A thermal isolation arrangement for use in a co-rotating scroll refrigerant compressor includes various thermal insulation elements adapted to minimize heat transfer between hot rotating members of the scroll fluid device and the return refrigerant to be compressed, and between hot lubricant in the compressor and the return refrigerant. The thermal isolation elements of the present invention may be used individually or collectively to minimize the preheating of the inlet refrigerant so as to maintain the density of the return refrigerant being compressed to thereby increase the total efficiency of the scroll fluid device.

Abstract:
A thrust bearing/coupling component for use in scroll-type apparatus which may be a compressor, expander, fluid pump or vacuum pump. The resulting apparatus is particularly suited for use as auxiliary equipment in automotive power systems. The component of this invention comprises rotating or oscillating load carrying members, preferably ball bearings, confined within facing indentations cut in the orbiting scroll member end plate surface and an associated surface in a member stationary with respect to the orbiting scroll member. The thrust bearing/coupling component couples the stationary and orbiting scroll members in a predetermined angular relationship and it may be used to carry either expansive or compressive axial loads on the scroll members to achieve efficient radial sealing of the moving scroll fluid pockets while controlling surface wearing so that the scroll apparatus may be operated for an extended period of time without servicing.

Abstract:
Peripherally-driven scroll apparatus. The orbiting scroll member is attached through radially-compliant linking means to eccentrics mounted on three equally spaced crankshafts to accommodate differential thermal expansion without the generation of any appreciable elastic forces to increase bearing loads. Means are provided to prevent axial deflections in the stationary scroll members while permitting their supports to be designed and constructed for strength rather than stiffness. The apparatus may be staged and employed as a compressor or expander.

Abstract:
A scroll type fluid machinery which is provided with: a first scroll and a second scroll which moves with respect to the first scroll, where the base of the first scroll is provided with suction bores perforating through the base from the rear surface thereof to the front surface, and open at the outer peripheral portion of the front surface of the base, so that fluid released into an internal space of the body casing passes through the suction bores, and into the suction sides of compression volumes formed between spiral members of the scrolls, whereby suction pressure in the compression volumes is maximized and volumetric efficiency is improved.

Abstract:
A liquid immersible scroll pump in which all of the pump components including electric motor drive means are contained within a housing and through which the liquid is pumped at a controlled predetermined pressure. Hydraulic pressure within the pump provides sufficient axial force on the scroll members to enhance radial sealing as well as the tangential sealing of the flanks of the scroll wraps. The pump is particularly suited for low-cost mass production and may be used as a fuel pump, either immersed in the fuel tank of an automobile or mounted outside the tank, to provide fuel under pressure through a line to the engine.

Abstract:
A serpentine robotic crawler having multiple dexterous manipulators supported about multiple frame units. The frame units are connected via an articulating linkage at proximal ends wherein the articulating linkage is capable of positioning the frames into various configurations. Dexterous manipulators are coupled to distal ends of the frame units and are positionable via the articulating linkage and articulating joints therein into various positions about the frame ends. The configurations and positioning of the dexterous manipulators allows the robotic crawler to perform coordinated dexterous operations.

Abstract:
A robotic mobile low-profile transport vehicle is disclosed. The vehicle can comprise a first transport module having a frame assembly, a mobility system, and a propulsion system and a second transport module having a frame assembly and a mobility system. A multi-degree of freedom coupling assemblage can join the first and second transport modules together. The vehicle can include a first platform supported about the frame assembly of the first transport module, and a second platform supported about the frame assembly of the second transport module. Each of the platforms can be configured to receive a load for transport. Additionally, the vehicle can include a control system that can operate to facilitate intra-module communication and coordination to provide a coordinated operating mode of the first and second transport modules and the coupling assemblage about a given terrain.
