Abstract:

An immunoassay based on the agglutination or the agglutination inhibition of a suspension of immunologically coated particles by the sample. Measurements are made with an apparatus having means for providing electromagnetic radiation at wavelengths equal to or less than the mean diameter of the particles and in a range of at least about 100 nm. The apparatus also includes means for measuring, at a predetermined angle, a portion of the radiation transmitted through a cuvette containing the reaction mixture.

Abstract:

A novel method and a novel apparatus therefor are described for detecting and measuring a predetermined immunochemical substance, for example, an antigen, an antibody, a hapten, or certain low molecular weight substance. Abstract:

A switching regulator having improved dynamic response to load variations includes a load compensation circuit coupled to the output terminal. The load compensation circuit supplies current to a load coupled to the output terminal when the output voltage is less than a first predetermined level and/or diverts current away from the load when the output voltage is greater than a second predetermined level. The load compensation circuit operates in this manner until the output voltage is between the first and second predetermined levels. The load compensation circuit responds faster to load variations than the switching regulator to accommodate sudden changes in the load demand.

Abstract:

A system for staking a haptic to an optic to form an intraocular lens using a laser beam operating near the infrared range with a coaxial aiming laser beam operating in the visible range. A portion of the haptic is inserted into the optic through a radial bore and is exposed through an axial bore spanning from the optic upper surface to the radial bore. The coaxial laser beams are collimated and then focused using a microscope objective through the axial bores, onto the exposed haptic. Aiming of the coaxial beams onto the optic and haptic is aided by the use of a magnifying CCD camera positioned with its optical axis at a 45. degree. angle to the optic horizontal plane. The coaxial lasers, which are typically focused to a minor diameter which is greater than or equal to the inner diameter of the axial bore, make contact with the exposed haptic. Consequently, the haptic is melted and is then allowed to cool, coalescing into a bead staking the haptic to the optic.

Abstract:

An amplifier circuit including a novel degeneration input stage that permits a low Noise Figure and superior linearity to be achieved in combination. The amplifier is suitable for use in fully integrated direct-conversion tuner circuits, and provides continuously variable gain functionality implemented by steering current away from an output load of the amplifier through differential transistor pairs located in the current signal paths of an input stage. Voltage headroom problems are avoided by placing the attenuation resistors of the degenerated input stage in the signal path, such that there is little or no DC voltage drop across the resistors. Further, this arrangement permits very accurate on-chip matching to an off-chip signal source. The distribution of IP3 values over the gain range of the amplifier, as well as gain and NF characteristics, are dependent on resistor ratios rather than absolute values. These amplifier characteristics are thus largely temperature and process independent.

Abstract:

Methods and apparatus for frequency synthesization are shown for generating an output signal of desired frequency. The frequency synthesizer includes an oscillator for generating an output signal at the desired frequency in response to a control signal. A first detector compares the output signal to a reference signal and generates a first difference signal representative of the differences, preferably in phase and frequency, between the output and the reference signals. A second detector compares the output signal to the reference signal and generates a second difference signal. A controller generates the control signal in response to either the first or second difference signal. A selector member selects between the first and second detectors to provide either the first or second control signal to the controller in response to a selection signal. A lock detector detects when the output signal and said reference signal are in a predetermined relation and generates the switch signal in response to the detection of the occurrence of such predetermined relation.

An assembly device may include a driver base. The assembly device may also include a driver bit having a main body between a base end and a tip end configured to drive a screw and the main body extending along a longitudinal axis, the driver bit configured to attach to the driver base. The assembly device may also include a vacuum adaptor comprising a forward end, a backward end, and an outer shell enclosing a hollow portion and extending along the longitudinal axis, the backward end configured to attach to the driver base. The assembly device may further include a vacuum nozzle comprising a side wall enclosing a cavity extending along the longitudinal axis from a forward open end to a backward open end opposite to the forward open end. The vacuum nozzle is coaxial with the driver bit and the vacuum adaptor. The backward open end is configured to attach to the forward end of the vacuum adaptor.
