Abstract:

A duct joining system for providing an air-tight seal and mechanical connection for ducts and fittings is disclosed. The duct joining system includes a flexible gasket that provides the seal and mechanical connection between a first duct and a second duct. The flexible gasket is, e.g., mounted on a male end and is affixed at an angle relative to normal of the male end of the duct. The female end of the other duct includes a raised bead in which the flexible gasket is seated when the ducts are properly joined. The angled flexible gasket seated in the raised bead forms an air-tight seal as well as fastens or locks the male end to the female end. If desired, the flexible gasket may be mounted in the female end and is seated in a depressed bead in the male end when properly joined. Alternatively, when a flexible duct is used, a clamp may be clamped over the female end of the flexible duct and over the male end of a fitting to provide an air tight seal and fastened connection.

Abstract:

A non-adhesive retaining device for medical-surgical tubes, such as endotracheal tubes or nasal cannulae, have a soft plastic staging member held by a headband in contact with the upper lip adjacent to the nose with a latex rubber cuff band grasping the tube. This assembly forms a sanitary type simple mount that engages the skin to hold the tube in place at the facial entrance. The cuff grasps the tube to secure it without lateral, rotational or axial movement. This retaining device serves as a comfortable flexible means that will conform to normal body movement and handling without irritation to skin or facial entrance. The staging member when contacting the lip area has at the center a protruding arm extending at an angle to retain at its center end the cuff that surrounds the tube in position for entry straight into the facial passage without bending or rubbing on the rim of the patients nostril or mouth as the case may be. The member is reversible to extend the tubing at a convenient angle into either the nostril or mouth.

A temperature sensor assembly is disclosed, formed of flexible, resilient, and insulative material, so that a contact temperature sensor, situated in a housing and connected to an electrical meter, may be affixed temporarily or permanently to a (generally) cylindrical tube, pipe, or other “line,” the distal ends of the housing straps stretched and tensioned to press the housing and contact temperature sensor on to the exterior of such fluid line to keep the housing in the correct position on the fluid line, and the distal ends of the straps joined to secure the assembly to the fluid line, so that the temperature on the exterior of the fluid line, and the temperature of the fluid therewithin, may thereby be measured.
