Abstract:

Optical bodies are disclosed that include an optical film and at least one rough strippable skin layer operatively connected to a surface of the optical film. The at least one rough strippable skin layer can include a continuous phase and a disperse phase. Alternatively, the at least one rough strippable skin layer can include a first polymer, a second polymer different from the first polymer and an additional material that is substantially immiscible in at least one of the first and second polymers. In some exemplary embodiments, a surface of the at least one rough strippable skin layer adjacent to the optical film comprises a plurality of protrusions and the adjacent surface of the optical film comprises a plurality of asymmetric depressions substantially corresponding to said plurality of protrusions. In addition, optical bodies are disclosed that include an optical film having a surface with asymmetric depressions, the asymmetric depressions having a major dimension substantially collinear with a major axis of the optical film and a minor direction substantially collinear with a minor axis of the optical film. Methods of making such exemplary optical bodies are also disclosed.

Abstract:

Multi-layer films, and processes to make the films, that enable the delivery of a substrate featuring a peelable thin layer of low haze, amorphous, isotropic film with the desired properties of high modulus, high usage temperature, UV blockage, and toughness The films are made using a co-extrusion, co-orientation and annealing process to enable the delivery of a thin isotropic, UV blocking layer on top of a release layer and support substrate. These film constructions can be kept together during additional processing steps such as coating and converting. The release and dimensionally stable substrate layer can be easily removed once processing steps are completed.

Abstract:

A tear resistant multilayer film including pluralities of first and second layers is described. The first layers include a first polymer and the second layers include a second polymer. The first polymer is polyethylene terephthalate or a first ester block copolymer that includes polyethylene terephthalate blocks at a weight percent of the first ester block copolymer of at least 50 percent and further includes glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate blocks. The second polymer is sebacic acid-substituted polyethylene terephthalate or a second ester block copolymer that includes sebacic acid-substituted polyethylene terephthalate blocks at a weight percent of the second ester block copolymer of at least 50 percent and further includes polyethylene terephthalate blocks or glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate blocks. The tear resistant multilayer film includes a total of 6 to 300 first and second layers.

Layers of the first layer type includes a first polymer and the layers of the second layer type includes a second polymer.
