Abstract:

A method of forming a wound fiber package comprises winding a first portion of strand having at least one fiber on a bobbin using a first indexing ratio A:B, wherein A is greater than 0 and A is greater than B, and winding a second portion of strand having at least one fiber on the bobbin using a second indexing ratio A:B different from the first indexing ratio, wherein A and B are greater than 0. In one non-limiting embodiment of the invention, B equals 0 in the first indexing ratio, A in the first indexing ratio equals A in the second indexing ratio, and A equals B in the second indexing ratio. In another non-limiting embodiment of the invention, B is greater than 0 in the first indexing ratio, A in the first indexing ratio equals A in the second indexing ratio, and A equals B in the second indexing ratio. This method may be used to produce a wound package.

This invention relates to a card edge connector, multiple numbers of which are arranged in banks and interconnected by discrete wires. The present invention provides a system for lacing wires through passageways and channels, thereby aligning the wires for insertion within slotted plate electrical contacts. One or a pair of wires may be inserted in each contact. Wire gripping strain relief is provided in each of the wire aligning passageways. The passageways and channels position the wire in an orderly arrangement in different planes within the connectors. Wire retention gates prevent removal of the wires from the channels and passageways.

An electrical terminal receptacle is disclosed, which is adapted to electrically interconnect each of a plurality of conductors in a flexible flat cable, ribbon cable, discrete wire cable or the like to respective ones of the posts in a post header. The receptacle includes a housing having a plurality of side-by-side chambers, and a sheet metal terminal positioned within each of the chambers, with each terminal being electrically connected to one of the conductors of the cable. The terminal includes a pair of spaced-apart contact surfaces, and the housing incudes three separate rows of apertures, with one of the apertures of each row of communicating with the area between the contact surfaces of each terminal, and such that the receptacle may be mounted to the post header in any one of three possible orientations. The contact surfaces of each terminal are shaped so as to form converging surfaces to the entering post in each of the three orientations, and such that the contact surfaces are resiliently spread apart to resiliently engage the post on two sides in any one of the three orientations.

A surface mounting means is disclosed which is adapted to releasably mount an electrical component to the surface of a printed circuit board. In one specific embodiment, the electrical component comprises an electrical connector for interconnecting a plurality of conductors on the circuit board to a like number of conductors in a flexible flat cable. The connector includes a plurality of U-shaped terminals which define generally parallel legs, with one of the legs of each terminal being biased into contact with a conductor in the flexible cable, and the other of the legs being biased into contact with a conductor on the circuit board. The connector is releasably mounted to the surface of the board by means of a pair of retainers, which include spring arms which are adapted to releasably engage the end portions of the connector.
