A dual band signal receiver is provided with relatively coaxial antenna assemblies electromagnetically coupled to respective upper and lower band rectangular waveguides and ports through suitable polarization switching assemblies. The upper band rotatable antenna assembly consists of a dipole feed having driven dipole elements, parasitic dipole elements and a corner reflector element electromagnetically coupled to the upper band rectangular waveguide by a suitable transmission line extending substantially along the longitudinal axis or centerline of the lower band cylindrical waveguide.
Direction Coded Digital Stroke Generator Providing A Plurality Of Symbols

International Classification:

US Classification:

Abstract:
A direction coded digital stroke generator that allows arbitrary symbols to be defined in real time and in which these symbols consist of substantially an unlimited number of discrete segments. When interfaced with a memory source such as a digital computer the stroke generator provides highly flexible symbol generation capability at a relatively low cost in terms of memory requirements and with a relatively high writing speed. Each line segment is defined by four binary bits with three bits defining direction and one bit determining blanking. The three direction bits are decoded to control X and Y up/down counters orienting the segment in one of eight directions. A selectable segment length feature is provided allowing development of segments of selected lengths so that the symbols have a selected size and degree of detail.
Method Of Catalyst Preparation By High-Temperature Hydrothermal Incorporation Of Noble Metals Onto Surfaces And Matrices

Abstract:
A method of depositing noble metals on surfaces or matrices to manufacture industrial catalysts that can be used in a variety of applications. Such deposition of noble metals can be achieved by treating the surfaces in high-temperature (150. degree. C. or higher) water containing dissolved noble metal ions or its colloidal suspensions. The method consists of the steps of placing the surface of a metal substrate in contact with a volume filled with high-temperature water; injecting a solution of a noble metal compound into the volume for a predetermined duration; and removing the surface of the metal substrate from contact with the high-temperature water after expiration of said predetermined duration. The noble metal compound has the property that it releases species of the noble metal in high-temperature water. These noble metal species deposit on or incorporate in the oxide film on the surface of the metal substrate.
A dual band signal receiver is provided with inner and outer relatively coaxial cylindrical waveguides electromagnetically coupled to respective upper and lower band rectangular waveguides and ports through suitable polarization switching probe assemblies. The rectangular waveguides are mounted adjacent one end of the outer cylindrical waveguide. The rotatable probe assembly of the inner cylindrical waveguide is electromagnetically coupled to the high band rectangular waveguide by a suitable transmission line extending substantially along the longitudinal axis or centerline of the outer cylindrical waveguide.
An antenna structure has a rotatable dipole array constituting a driven antenna element, a cup mounted around the dipole, a first conductor connected to and extending from the antenna, and a first dielectric mounted around the first conductor. A second conductor is mounted around the first dielectric, and a second dielectric is mounted around the second conductor. A third conductor is mounted around the second dielectric, and the first and second conductors form a quarter-wavelength transformer. The first dielectric maintains a uniform spacing between the first and second conductors, and the third conductor defines a radio-frequency coupling cavity. The second dielectric electrically enlarges the cavity. Thus the physical dimensions of the structure can be reduced without sacrifice of its electrical properties.
Signal Propagation Using High Performance Dual Probe

Abstract:
Signal propagation apparatus is formed with a waveguide cavity for propagating first and second electromagnetic signals respectively having first and second electric fields that are distinguished outside the cavity by first and second polarizations, for example orthogonal polarizations, one vertical and one horizontal. Within the cavity, the electric field lines are curved and cross one another at angles that vary as a function of location within the cavity. A pair of probes are mounted within the cavity in spaced-apart relation to each other and have orientations that differ from the orientations of the electric fields outside the cavity. In order to send or transmit signals having electric fields that are respectively vertically and horizontally polarized, for example, thereby forming an angle of 90. degree. with respect to each other, the probes lie in planes forming a dihedral angle of about 80. degree. This structure maximizes probe-to-probe isolation and cross-polarization nulls between the first and second electric fields.

Abstract:
An electrically-conductive flexible probe is mounted within a wave guide that receives radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation. A leading portion of the probe has an orientation that is adjustable between two positions that are angularly displaced with respect to each other by 90. degree. A permanent bar magnet is connected to the leading portion of probe, and an electromagnet is mounted adjacent to the bar magnet so as to be capable of being magnetically coupled to the bar magnet. The electromagnet is electrically controllable so as to control the magnetic coupling between the bar magnet and the electromagnet, move the bar magnet selectively to one of the two angular positions, and thereby correspondingly move the leading portion of the probe and cause the wave guide to transmit radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation having a selected one of two polarizations in planes that are mutually orthogonal with respect to each other and reflect radio frequency electromagnetic radiation having the other polarization.
Filtered Inflow And Emergency Hepa Exhaust During Asbestos Removal
In asbestos abatement or decontamination work, negative pressure is established within a work area, and air entering the work area in response to the negative pressure is caused to pass through or past a HEPA filter in an air inlet to the work area. If the negative pressure within the work area ceases, as in an emergency situation, any air exiting the work area through the air inlet is caused to pass through the HEPA filter. This may be accomplished by pivotally mounting the HEPA filter for rotation about a horizontal axis so that it moves out of the way of inflowing air, while outgoing air must pass through the filter. Alternatively, a fan may also be mounted in the air inlet and may be operated in response to pressure within the work area, so that when a negative pressure condition exists within the work area the fan is operated to force air into the work area through the HEPA filter, while if the negative pressure condition terminates, the fan is turned off, so that any air exiting through the inlet must pass through the HEPA filter.
