Abstract:

A game table includes a storage area with a center leaf horizontally mounted in the storage area. When the top cover is in a closed position, the center leaf is positioned at the bottom of the storage area. A pulley system is used to raise the center leaf into a playing position when the top cover is moved to the open position. When the top cover is closed again, the pulley system lowers the center leaf into the storage area. A game board and game pieces positioned on the center leaf are maintained in the same position when the top cover is closed and the center leaf is lowered into the storage area. By maintaining the center leaf in a horizontal position, persons playing a game can suspend the game and safely keep the game pieces in the same position by merely closing the top cover. The game may be resumed by opening the top cover to raise the center leaf back into the playing position.

Abstract:

A toilet seat ventilation assembly for mounting on a toilet bowl includes a seat having a and air passageway and plurality of vent holes formed in the seat. A tubular manifold is rotatably secured in mounting fixtures at the rear of the toilet seat. The toilet seat is rotatably secured to the manifold by hinges having a passageway for communicating air from the toilet seat to the inlet of the manifold. The mounting fixtures have a passageway for communicating air from the outlet of the manifold to an exhaust conduit. The toilet seat cover has hinges for connecting the toilet seat cover to the manifold in a fixed manner. Pivoting the toilet cover between a horizontal position and a vertical position causes the manifold to rotate within the toilet seat hinges and the mounting fixtures. The inlets and outlets of the manifold are configured so that air from around the toilet bowl is communicated into and out of the manifold to an external vent when the toilet cover is in the vertical position and the toilet seat is in a horizontal position.

Abstract:

Stable clones of neural stem cells (NSCs) have been isolated from the human fetal telencephalon. In vitro, these self-renewing clones (affirmed by retroviral insertion site) can spontaneously give rise to all 3 fundamental neural cell types (neurons, oligodendrocytes, astrocytes). Following transplantation into germinal zones of the developing newborn mouse brain, they, like their rodent counterparts, can participate in aspects of normal development, including migration along well-established migratory pathways to disseminated CNS regions, differentiation into multiple developmentally- and regionally-appropriate cell types in response to microenvironmental cues, and non-disruptive, non-tumorigenic interspersion with host progenitors and their progeny. Readily genetically engineered prior to transplantation, human NSCs are capable of expressing foreign transgenes in vivo in these disseminated locations. Further supporting their potential for gene therapeutic applications, the secretory products from these NSCs can cross-correct a prototypical genetic metabolic defect in abnormal neurons and glia in vitro as effectively as do murine NSCs. Finally, human cells appear capable of replacing specific deficient neuronal populations in a mouse model of neurodegeneration and impaired development, much as murine NSCs could. Human NSCs may be propagated by a variety of means—both epigenetic (e.g., chronic mitogen exposure) and genetic (transduction of the propagating gene vmyc)—that are comparably safe (vmyc is constitutively downregulated by normal developmental mechanisms and environmental cues) and effective in yielding engraftable, migratory clones, suggesting that investigators may choose the propagation technique that best serves the demands of a particular research or clinical problem. All clones can be cryopreserved and transplanted into multiple hosts in multiple settings.

Abstract:

Disclosed is an electron-beam cathode which emits electrons with a low work function over a relatively wide range of temperature and pressure. The cathode is comprised of single crystal tungsten having zirconium and oxygen dopant atoms within the bulk thereof. This cathode is formed by the steps of attaching zirconium to a portion of the surface of single crystal tungsten, and heating the tungsten with the zirconium attached thereto in an atmosphere of oxygen to diffuse the zirconium and the oxygen into the bulk of the tungsten.
