A regenerative heat exchanger having an energy-storing drive system includes a high heat capacity matrix rotable about an axis and a drive system that is in operable communication with the high heat capacity matrix and is capable of rotating the high heat capacity matrix about the axis. An energy-storage mechanism is in operable communication with the drive system. The energy-storage mechanism is capable of controlling an acceleration and/or deceleration of rotation of the high heat capacity matrix thus reducing an amount of energy required to be input into the drive system to rotate the high heat capacity matrix.

Abstract:

Disclosed is a regenerative heat exchanger including a brush-seal configuration to prevent mixing of fluid flows. The regenerative heat exchanger includes a regenerator, and at least two conduits, each conduit having a matrix end abutting a face of the regenerator matrix. The at least two conduits carrying at least two fluid flows, the fluid flows which pass through the regenerator matrix. The regenerative heat exchanger includes a plurality of brush-seals, each brush-seal located at a matrix end of each conduit without contacting the matrix, thereby sealing around a periphery of each conduit to prevent mixing of fluid flows. Also disclosed is a method for establishing a minimal gap between a regenerator matrix of a regenerative heat exchanger and a plurality of brush-seals.

Abstract:

A tonometer for measuring intraocular pressure of an eye is described. The tonometer includes an eyepiece having a conduit extending through an outer surface. The outer surface is concave shaped to conform to an eyeball. The tonometer also includes a plunger extending through the conduit having a head at a first end and having a probe at a second end which extends beyond the outer surface of the eyepiece so as to contact the eyeball when the eyepiece is positioned to conform to the eyeball. The tonometer also includes a fluid reservoir having a top and a bottom. The bottom of the reservoir is sealed by a membrane that is in juxtaposition with the head of the plunger. In addition, the tonometer includes an indicator positioned in the fluid reservoir for measuring a level of fluid in the reservoir. The level of fluid in the reservoir is proportional to an intraocular pressure of the eyeball when the eyepiece is positioned to conform to the eyeball.

Abstract:

Apparatus for thermal transfer with a semiconductor wafer in a vacuum processing chamber includes a platen with a surface for supporting the wafer, a clamping ring for clamping the wafer to the platen, and passages for supplying a low pressure gas into a thermal transfer region between the wafer and the platen surface. A low compliance seal surrounds the thermal transfer region and inhibits the gas from reaching the processing chamber without overstressing the wafer. The seal includes an elastomer ring having an elongated cross-section, and a sealing groove having a first groove portion for gripping one edge of the ring and a second groove portion which receives the other edge of the ring by bending deformation thereof when a wafer is clamped to the platen. In a preferred embodiment, the ring has a parallelogram-shaped cross-section and is oriented at an acute angle to the platen surface.

Abstract:

In one embodiment, an ion extraction optics for extracting a plurality of ion beams is provided. The ion extraction optics may include, an extraction plate, the extraction plate defining a cut-out region, the cut-out region being elongated along a first direction. The extraction apparatus may include a slidable insert, the slidable insert disposed to overlap the cut-out region, and slidably movable with respect to the extraction plate, along the first direction, wherein the slidable insert and cut-out region define a first aperture and a second aperture.
