Abstract:
A surrogate component for shock testing is disclosed that includes a housing with exterior dimensions, mass, and a center of gravity approximately the same as the exterior dimensions, mass, and center of gravity of a counterpart component. The housing also has a stiffness greater than the counterpart component and has an interface for securing a sensor. In particular, the counterpart component may be hard drive and the housing may be constructed from a molybdenum material.

Abstract:
A computer system having capability for restoration of a hard disk drive includes at least one processor and at least one hard disk drive. A software image is stored on the at least one hard disk drive, the software image including a factory downloaded image which is subject to corruption. A protected software restoration image not prone to a typical corruption is stored on the at least one hard disk drive and available for use by the at least one processor in executing the restoration of the software image on the at by least one hard disk drive to a like new factory downloaded image condition.
Method And System For Securing Data Utilizing Reconfigurable Logic
A method is provided for securing data sets by dynamically hopping amongst a variety of data encryption and/or manipulation protocols. Such dynamic protocol hopping can be implemented in reconfigurable logic, or some combination of reconfigurable logic and fixed circuitry or software. The encryption and/or manipulation protocol applied to the data set is selected from among a plurality of encryption protocols in an, optionally upgradeable, library of protocols. Preferably, the selection can be driven by a random number generator. More preferably, the number of encryption protocols available can be extended using a logic-stretching engine. An apparatus is also provided for securing data, including a memory that contains data describing encryption protocols, a communications interface that is configured to receive data, and a processor that reads from the memory one of the encryption protocols and encrypts the received data based on the encryption protocol. Preferably, the apparatus also includes a random number generator, and the processor selects the encryption protocol to read, and encryption parameters to use, based on the output of the random number generator.
A method and system for optical interconnections with backplanes, cache/memory, chip/die stacks, and mass storage in a supercomputing system. The method includes, but is not limited to, matching a plurality of transmitters to a plurality of receivers to a predetermined phase of an optical signal via a plurality of transmit holographic optical elements and a plurality of receive holographic optical elements; organizing the plurality of transmitters and the plurality of receivers to receive the optical signal via a reflective medium; and modulating the optical signal via the reflective medium from each transmit holographic optical element tuned to the associated receive holographic optical element.
Internet Protocol Trace Back Using Dynamic Reconfigurable Logic Hardware
A global positioning system (GPS) receiver receives signals from at least three or more high-definition television (HDTV) transmitters at HDTV transmitting power and frequency bands. The GPS receiver includes dynamic reconfigurable logic hardware to decode data patterns (i.e., dynamic algorithm patterns) in the received signals to compute and/or identify GPS receiver's physical location.
Method And System For Securing Data Utilizing Reconfigurable Logic
A method, an article of manufacture, and a process are provided for securing data sets by dynamically hopping amongst a variety of data encryption and/or manipulation protocols. Such dynamic protocol hopping can be implemented in reconfigurable logic. The encryption protocol applied to the data set is selected from among a plurality of encryption protocols. Preferably, the selection can be driven by a random number generator.
Method And System For Supplying A Custom Software Image To A Computer System

International Classification:
H04L 900
US Classification:

Abstract:
A method and system for supplying a software image to a computer system utilize a custom-programmed compact disk (CD) ROM that is configured for a specified individual computer system and constrained to be downloaded to and operable on only the specified individual computer system. The method and system further utilize an installation procedure for restoring the specified computer system to the software state that the computer was in at the time the computer left the factory after initial configuration and downloading. The custom-programmed CD ROM 106 is delivered to a customer in combination with a bootable flexible diskette 108, and an instructional technical instruction sheet for usage by the customer to restore the computer system to a "factory new" software condition.
