A fastener bonding machine for bonding a fastener to a leaf of a file folder, the fastener consisting of an overlay member having hot melt adhesive on one side thereof and having a pronged member mounted thereon, the bonding machine including a base, a heated platen on the base, a first gauge for locating the fastener relative to the heated platen, a pivotal plate mounted on the base, a second gauge for locating the leaf of a file folder relative to the fastener, a proximity switch actuatable by movement of the pivotable plate, a motor, a toggle linkage actuatable by the motor, a presser member movable by the toggle linkage to press the leaf and the fastener together, and a control circuit for causing the presser member to dwell for a period of time during the pressing action and to thereafter return the toggle linkage to a position wherein the presser member has moved away from the platen.
A paper compressor including an elongated plastic body portion having a pair of opposite sides and a pair of opposite ends and a longitudinal axis, a slot extending inwardly from each of the ends, a hole spaced inwardly from each of the slots, a pair of ribs molded integrally with the plastic body portion and extending along the opposite sides, a central rib molded integrally with the body portion and extending along the longitudinal axis, the body portion being curved so that its undersurface is convex and its upper surface is concave. A steel paper compressor which is the same as the plastic compressor except that it does not have ribs.
A backbone construction for a file folder including a pair of parallel grooves on the inside of the folder between the backbone portion and the front and rear leaves, slots extending inwardly from the ends of the backbone portion, a flexible tape overlying both the inner and outer surfaces of the backbone and the inner and outer surfaces of the front and rear covers adjacent to the grooves, an elongated slit located centrally between the grooves and parallel thereto and extending through the tape on the inner surface of the backbone and through a portion of the backbone and being in line with the slots, and perforations located between the ends of the slit and the slots.

Abstract:
A fastener device including a flexible resilient base member of foam-like material having an upper side and a lower side, a prong member having a central portion and outer end portions, an overlay member covering the central portion of the prong member with the central portion and the overlay member being adhesively secured by pressure-sensitive adhesive to the upper side of the base member, a pair of spaced apertures in the overlya member through which the outer end portions of the prong member extend, and pressure-sensitive adhesive on the lower side of the base member for securing it to another member.
A fastener device including an overlay member having a central portion and opposite end portions, spaced apertures at the junctions of the central portion and the opposite end portions, an elongated strip-like prong member having a central portion underlying the central portion of the overlay member and having opposite end portions extending through the apertures and overlying the opposite end portions of the overlay member, the prong member having rounded side edges throughout the major portion of its length, and extreme outer end portions having converging sides which are sharpened. A fastener device of the above type wherein the apertures in the overlay member are quadrangular. A prong member having rounded side edges throughout the major portion of its length and sharp converging extreme outer end portions.
