Abstract:
An electrically driven loudspeaker is coupled to the atmosphere, which is to carry sound to the human ear, through a hollow coupler the inlet end of which has a cross sectional area comparable to the effective area of the loudspeaker, said cross sectional area decreasing progressively from said inlet end to an outlet end of substantially smaller cross sectional area. In a specific embodiment of the invention, an exponential horn is formed within the confines of a loudspeaker cabinet enclosure, and the inlet end of the horn is coupled to the electrically driven loudspeaker by means of the hollow coupler also formed within the cabinet enclosure. The outlet end of the coupler has the same cross sectional area and shape as the inlet end of the horn.
Method And Apparatus For Purifying Process Waste Emissions
The vapor emissions from process exhausts, containing one or more contaminants of the solid, liquid and gaseous types, are delivered to the inlet of a firebox which, in one embodiment, has a cylindrical side wall and a tangentially arranged oxidizing air-fuel burner. The hot gas outlet of the firebox is so arranged that the hot gases of combustion are retained within the firebox a sufficient length of time to insure substantially complete combustion of combustibles within the firebox. The portions of the firebox which are contacted by the gases of combustion are of a material or combination of materials having a surface capable of being heated to a temperature exceeding the ignition temperature of the air-fuel mixture of the burner and of combustible materials from the process, and an external mass capable of insulating said surface against external cooling below said ignition temperature. A tangentially arranged outlet through the cylindrical wall of the firebox serves to remove non-combustible solids centrifuged to said side wall by the high speed circulating gases of combustion. The purified hot gases may be recycled from the hot gas outlet to the process equipment, used for other purposes, or discharged to the atmosphere as a non-pollutant.
An air assisted hand welding tool for clamping and welding conductors together. The tool includes a handle formed of pivotally connected lever-like members. An air passage is connected to an air pressure source provided in the handle of the hand tool. A valve is manually engaged by the operator (following tactile closing of the electrodes on the conductors) to open the air pressure to an expansion chamber formed between the members. As the chamber pressure is increased, the members are urged to a consistent clamping force thereby to assist the operators normal hand clamping function. A switch in the expansion chamber is connected to the welding circuit and is activated following chamber expansion to initiate welding. The entire welding operation including air assist and welding current initiation are all accomplished by a simple closing motion of the operators hand.
For use with a turntable structure for rotating a sound-recorded disc, an elongated tone arm is mounted pivotally intermediate its ends by a gimbal structure in which concentric rings are pivoted at right angles to each other by means of resilient torsion members which allow the tone arm to pivot, substantially without friction, both horizontally and vertically. The outer end of the arm mounts a cartridge stylus and the inner end mounts a longitudinally adjustable counterbalancing weight. Cooperating magnets are mounted on the tone arm and turntable base and are arranged to provide repelling magnetic forces to effect insertion of the stylus in the starting groove of a recorded disc and to effect removal of the stylus from the ending groove of the disc and return of the tone arm to a rest position. Energy absorbing material is contained on the tone arm to prevent the latter from resonating.
