Abstract:
A method for physical automatic repeat request by a subscriber unit. A physical layer at the transmitter receives data and formats the received data into packets having a particular encoding/data modulation. The physical layer contains n channels which transmit the packets and retransmits packets upon failure to receive a corresponding acknowledgment for a given packet. An adaptive modulation and coding controller in the transmitter collects retransmission statistics and adjusts the particular encoding/data modulations using the collected statistics.

Abstract:
A received channel power indicator (RCPI) value is used as a measure of the received RF power in the selected channel, measured at the antenna connector. This parameter is a measure by the PHY sublayer of the received RF power in the channel measured over the PLCP preamble and over the entire received frame. RCPI is a monotonically increasing, logarithmic function of the received power level defined in dBm.

Method And Apparatus For Network Management Using Periodic Measurements Of Indicators

Abstract:
A beacon signal used in data communications, such as the IEEE 802. 11, is provided with data extensions. The data extensions permit additional information to be provided by the beacon signal, thereby reducing the traffic overhead of the network. The data extensions further permit handoffs and handoffs based on offset values. Periodic beacon requests are made during connection between a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and an access point (AP) on a WLAN. A Measurement Request field corresponding to a beacon request contains a measurement duration value and channel number for which the request applies. The beacon request permits a scan mode which includes “Active Scan” mode, “Passive Scan” mode and “Beacon Table” mode. In Active Scan mode, the measuring station (STA) transmits a probe request with a broadcast SSID. In Passive Scan mode, the measuring STA passively receives on the specified channel and return a beacon report containing one information element for each STA from which it detects a beacon or probe response.

Abstract:
A wireless transmit/receive unit comprising a radio frequency signal measurement device that is configured to produce a value indicating a radio frequency signal, noise and interference received power at an antenna connector. An average noise plus interference measuring device is configured to produce a value indicating a measured average noise plus interference metric. A received signal to noise indication calculation device is configured to calculate a received signal to noise indicator from the value indicating a radio frequency signal, noise and interference received power at an antenna connector and the value indicates a measured average noise plus interference metric.

Abstract:
An improved method of network management, particularly in the context of standards IEEE802. 11 and IEEE802. 11k, through two new MAC measurements, with attendant advantages. The two new measurements include WTRU uplink traffic loading measurement, and an AP service loading measurement and is generally applicable at least to layers 1 and 2 as applied to a least 802. 11k in the context of OFDM and CDMA 2000 systems, but is applicable to other scenarios as well. A Method for determining and advertising congestion is also provided for a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) system. The present invention also introduces a method for managing congestion when congestion is detected. This aspect of the present invention applies primarily to wireless systems that use the Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) mechanism. The methods are advantageously implemented in selectively configured WTRUs of various forms.
Supporting Emergency Calls On A Wireless Local Area Network
A device for identifying an emergency call in a wireless local area network includes an indicator to identify a call as an emergency call. The indicator can be a bit flag or an information element. The information element can include location information regarding the location of the station that placed the emergency call. This information can be used to located the caller. The location information can be transmitted from the station to an access point separately from an emergency call.
Base Station Implementing A Physical Layer Automatic Repeat Request
A base station implementing physical layer automatic repeat request includes a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter has a physical layer transmitter for receiving data, formatting the received data into packets transmitting the packets and retransmitting packets in response to failure to receive a corresponding acknowledgment for a given packet; an acknowledgment receiver for receiving the corresponding acknowledgment; and an adaptive modulation and coding controller for collecting retransmission statistics and adjusting the particular data encoding/modulation using the collected statistics. The receiver has a physical layer receiver for demodulating the packets; a combiner/decoder for buffering, decoding and detecting packet errors; and an acknowledgment generator for generating an acknowledgment for each packet if that packet has an acceptable error rate.
